Research Assistant 1 - GI Medicine (Choski Lab)

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Research Assistant I to join our team. This is an excellent entry‑level opportunity for individuals looking to launch a career in biomedical or life sciences research. This is a full‑time, paid position (40 hours/week). Dr. Choksi’s laboratory focuses on esophageal inflammation and cancer. Organization: GI Medicine Research Summary of Responsibilities Perform animal husbandry duties, including handling, monitoring, and experimentally manipulating laboratory mice Maintain accurate, detailed records of animal health, experimental procedures, and observations Support other team members with data collection and analysis Assist with day‑to‑day laboratory operations and ongoing research projects Follow all institutional animal care as well as biological and chemical safety protocols Contribute positively to a collaborative, collegial, and productive lab environment Qualifications B.S./B.A. in physical/life sciences or related field Prior research experience preferred but not required — we will train the best fit candidate Comfort with or willingness to work with laboratory mice (including physical handling and euthanasia) Strong work ethic and eagerness to learn new techniques and protocols Collaborative mindset and ability to work effectively as part of a team Attention to detail and ability to follow written and verbal instructions What We Offer Hands‑on training in laboratory and animal care techniques Mentorship from experienced researchers—both physician and basic scientists Opportunity to contribute to meaningful scientific work A supportive, team‑oriented lab culture This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact within Vanderbilt Health, supported by a comprehensive benefits package which may include health, disability, retirement and/or wellness offerings to enhance your well‑being and professional growth.
