The Opportunity
The Older Adult Transition Specialist is responsible for supporting older adults as they navigate changing economic, employment, educational, and retirement-related needs throughout later stages of life. This position provides assessment, counseling, education, benefits navigation, and workforce transition support to help older adults maintain financial stability, independence, and quality of life.
The Specialist develops and delivers educational programming focused on retirement readiness, financial literacy, benefits access, workforce participation, entrepreneurship, and digital skills. The position works closely with community partners, volunteer instructors, employment agencies, and internal staff to identify emerging needs and ensure programs achieve measurable outcomes .
Responsibilities
Client Assessment and Transition Planning
- Conduct comprehensive assessments to identify the educational, financial, employment, and social service needs of older adults.
- Develop individualized transition and action plans that address changing economic circumstances and retirement goals.
- Assist participants in navigating major life transitions, including retirement, re-employment, caregiving responsibilities, and income changes.
Benefits Navigation and Resource Coordination
- Assess eligibility for public benefits, financial assistance programs, healthcare programs, housing supports, and other community resources.
- Assist participants with completing applications and required documentation for benefits and support services.
- Maintain current knowledge of federal, state, and local programs serving older adults.
- Make referrals to appropriate agencies and community partners as needed.
Education and Workforce Development
- Design, develop, and implement educational programs, workshops, and training curricula that address the needs of older adults.
- Provide direct instruction in areas such as retirement readiness, financial literacy, digital literacy, workforce readiness, entrepreneurship, and life skills.
- Coordinate guest speakers, volunteer instructors, and subject matter experts to deliver specialized workshops and training sessions.
- Ensure all educational offerings include clearly defined learning objectives and measurable outcomes.
Employment and Entrepreneurship Support
- Assist participants with job search strategies, resume development, interviewing skills, and career transition planning.
- Refer participants to employment agencies, workforce development organizations, and job placement services.
- Support individuals interested in self-employment, freelance work, and online business development.
- Assist participants in establishing online business platforms, social media profiles, and digital marketing strategies.
- Program Development and Community Engagement
- Conduct surveys, focus groups, interviews, and community needs assessments to identify emerging participant needs and service gaps.
- Analyze participant feedback and community trends to guide program development and continuous improvement.
- Build and maintain relationships with community organizations, educational institutions, employment agencies, and service providers.
- Recruit, coordinate, and support volunteer instructors and community partners.
Data Collection, Evaluation, and Reporting
- Establish and monitor program performance indicators and participant outcomes.
- Track participation, educational achievements, employment outcomes, benefits enrollment, and other key metrics.
- Maintain accurate participant records and documentation.
- Prepare and submit required reports to supervisors, funders, and regulatory agencies.
- Utilize data to evaluate program effectiveness and recommend improvements.
What You’ll Bring
Education/Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Human Services, Adult Education, Gerontology, Workforce Development, Public Administration, Counseling, or a related field required.
- Master's degree preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience working with older adults, workforce development, adult education, retirement planning, benefits counseling, or related services.
- Experience developing and delivering educational programs and workshops.
- Experience conducting assessments, case management, and resource coordination.
- Experience with program evaluation, outcome measurement, and reporting preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of issues affecting older adults, including retirement planning, workforce transitions, benefits programs, and aging services.
- Knowledge of public benefits and assistance programs.
- Strong curriculum development and instructional skills.
- Ability to conduct needs assessments and facilitate focus groups.
- Strong case management and client advocacy skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, database systems, virtual learning platforms, and social media tools.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse populations and community partners.
- Ability to travel locally to community sites, partner agencies, and program locations.
- Ability to facilitate workshops and presentations both in-person and virtually.
- Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required.

Salary Range
The expected base salary for this position is $65,000 annually. This rate reflects the anticipated compensation at the time of this posting and may be adjusted based on experience, education, and organizational needs.
