Project Accountant

Responsibilities

Kforce has a client in Saint Louis, MO that is seeking a Project Accountant.Summary:We are partnering with an established organization to identify a Project Accountant who will provide financial oversight throughout the project lifecycle. This position works closely with project leadership and operational teams to maintain accurate project financials, monitor costs, facilitate customer billing, and ensure compliance with contractual and internal requirements. Key Responsibilities:

• Partner with Project Managers and operational stakeholders to provide financial insight, resolve accounting questions, and support project financial management
• Oversee project financial activity from setup through completion, ensuring records remain accurate and current
• Analyze project performance, including costs, margins, budget variances, and other job-level financial metrics
• Coordinate customer billing and ensure invoices are prepared accurately according to contract terms and documentation requirements
• Review project expenditures across labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and vendors for proper classification and coding
• Manage project-related receivables and payables, including retainage activity and proper transaction recording
• Process subcontractor payment applications and vendor invoices while maintaining required compliance documentation, including lien waivers and insurance records
• Assist with committed cost tracking and project cash flow visibility
• Support project setup by establishing budgets, cost structures, billing information, and other financial requirements within the accounting system
• Contribute to month-end close, reconciliations, and maintenance of accurate, audit-ready project financial records
• Identify opportunities to improve project accounting processes, reporting accuracy, and efficiency
• Perform additional accounting and finance responsibilities as needed

Skills

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred
• Minimum of 2 years of relevant accounting experience
• Previous construction accounting experience required
• Experience in project-based or contract-driven environments strongly preferred
• Familiarity with construction accounting and project management/accounting systems; experience with Vista or a comparable platform is a plus
• Strong understanding of job costing, project billing, and financial reporting
• Highly organized with strong attention to detail and follow-through
• Confident communicator who can effectively partner with accounting and operational teams

The ideal candidate will bring construction accounting experience, strong attention to detail, and effective communication skills.

The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role. We may ultimately pay more or less than this range. Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.


We offer comprehensive benefits including medical/dental/vision insurance, HSA, FSA, 401(k), and life, disability & ADD insurance to eligible employees. Salaried personnel receive paid time off. Hourly employees are not eligible for paid time off unless required by law. Hourly employees on a Service Contract Act project are eligible for paid sick leave.
