Long Term Substitute Elementary Math Interventionist (Anticipated 09/16/2026 - 1/15/2027) Location: Hosmer/Lowell Elementary, Watertown, Massachusetts. Starting Date: August 31, 2026. Position Type: Temporary Long Term Substitute. Reports to: Principal and Math and Science Coordinator. Job Description Watertown Public Schools seeks an outstanding Math Interventionist to support fostering high achievement through differentiated instruction, strategic assessment, and promotion of a growth mindset, while aligning with curriculum standards and utilizing the Massachusetts Tiered System of Support. Responsibilities Skillfully support student learning of Grade K-5 Mathematics content and practice standards within tiers 1, 2, and 3. Empower and support diverse learners through individualized and small group math instruction. Collect, manipulate and analyze student mathematics data. Collaborate with educators to effectively address student needs and improve instructional practice. Incorporate a variety of assessment tools and strategies to inform and modify instruction, as well as target intervention and enrichment needs. Participate in team meetings with grade level colleagues as assigned. Participate in school and district-wide professional development. Partner with families to include them in each student’s learning and development. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s in Education strongly preferred. Massachusetts Teacher Certification/Licensure in Elementary required, Mathematics 1-6 preferred. SEI Endorsement. Deep understanding of K-5 Mathematics content and practice standards. Mathematics teaching experience in the elementary grades with a proven track record of promoting high achievement in the classroom. Experience differentiating math instruction for a range of learners, using techniques such as visual models, student discourse, open-ended problems, and strategies for increasing engagement. Experience writing lesson plans with clear, attainable learning goals and aligned activities. Experience using a range of assessments to analyze student learning to inform instruction. Demonstrate knowledge of the developmental needs of elementary learners and strategies to meet those needs through the curriculum. Ability to identify and build on students’ strengths and interests to support the development of a growth mindset in math learners. Experience building computational fluency through conceptual understanding. Strong classroom management skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with a diverse staff, student body, and community. Strong understanding of the Massachusetts Tiered System of Support (MTSS). Strong work ethic, alongside a commitment to doing whatever it takes for students to excel; instructional flexibility in order to meet students’ needs using effective strategies. Ability to be reflective and open to feedback. Physical Demands Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, operate a computer, hand‑held learning devices and other office equipment, reach with hands and arms, and occasionally lift or move up to 10 pounds. Pay Breakdown Per Diem Daily Rate Days 1-30: $135 for unlicensed candidates, $145 for licensed candidates. Per Diem Daily Rate after 30 days: $382.56 with retroactive payment (equivalent to BA Step 1 on Salary Scale). Rate for 91-184 Days: Individual Contractual Per diem rate based on the salary scale.
