Vice President of Sustainability and Impact

Vice President of Sustainability & Impact – responsible for leading and measuring sustainability initiatives across Starwood Hotels, reporting directly to the Senior Vice President, Operations, and the Sustainability Governance Committee. Key Responsibilities Sustainability Operations Collaborate with the CEO and Sustainability Governance Committee to enhance and build on global sustainability initiatives. Create and manage internal educational materials; develop and conduct training sessions for all departments; support communication of sustainability efforts and develop SOPs with corporate operations. Evaluate sustainability performance against SOPs with People Ops and Corporate Ops. Act as primary liaison with hotel operations and staff; maintain up-to-date sustainability information; build relationships with store management; use internal communication tool. Procure and centralize sustainability reporting (recycling, energy, water, etc.) and serve as consolidator for initiative statistics. Create reports and presentations to present new sustainability ideas to cross-functional teams, external partners, and SH leadership. Communicate key programs and KPIs with investor relations team; develop investor-focused communications collateral. Develop internal reporting framework and resource library for sustainability programming (marketing and communications teams). Manage and oversee waste, recycling, food waste, source reduction strategies per property. Support annual data collection and reporting against KPIs; support improvement. Develop and perform sustainability training for property-level teams. Maintain and update database of communications, key facts, stories for press releases, etc. Provide internal educational communications digitally and regularly; act as point of contact for property-level teams. Contribute to overall sustainability framework and strategy; use quarterly goals to set 1-3 main ongoing communication and reporting tasks. Marketing Manage overall sustainability activity calendar; create meaningful partnerships with local organizations. Develop media and marketing materials related to sustainability; annual corporate campaigns with marketing team; key property-level fact sheets. Execute and maintain communications/marketing/branding strategy to drive SHH&R sustainability narrative across multiple platforms (digital and print) for internal/external stakeholders. Create internal/external educational materials (trainings, SOPs, newsletters, social media support, online materials). Identify, measure, and report key metrics to evaluate impact of communications and marketing strategies; provide evidence-based recommendations. Development Create and maintain educational/sales materials for development pitch decks demonstrating sustainable hotels and resorts (physical & operational). Participate in discussions with prospective developers and consultants to educate and secure commitment to sustainability guidelines. Food & Beverage Evaluate properties annually to establish best practices; develop action plans to improve environmental and sustainability performance and storytelling around F&B identity. Create strategic plan to achieve overarching F&B identity goal. Perform quarterly audits against goals; make course corrections. Provide sustainability training for local F&B teams. Support marketing team on communications, press releases, storytelling critical to brand identity. Vet and review products and partners for sustainability requirements. Engineering / Buildings Work with sustainability and engineering teams to measure and report key metrics; provide evidence-based recommendations. Assist in creating reports and presentations; centralize sustainability reporting data. Translate sustainability outcomes into action; create case studies and narratives; communicate to corporate and field marketing teams; utilize various communication channels. Manage 3rd party consultant for internal, investor and stakeholder annual reports. Qualifications Minimum 5 years similar technical experience and supervisory experience. Excellent verbal & written communication skills. Must possess legal work authorization to work in the United States. Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Communications, or Engineering.
