Lydia House (LH), LLC from Lili’uokalani Trust, is directly overseen by the LT Board of Trustees, acting as Board of Directors. LH serves opportunity youth, ages 16 to 26, experiencing high risk factors and involvement in systems of care. The Center supports opportunity youth through low barrier access to basic needs services with a youth-centered approach. Lydia House aims to meet basic needs, stabilization, and support youth who choose to move towards thriving. The Center strongly roots its work in Hawaiian values and healing centered approach, with heightened focus elevating the strengths and innate values of all youth, regardless of past experiences and present environment. The Center operates through its drop-in hours meeting all basic needs. Lydia House provides an opportunity for intensive case management. Lydia House’s Huliau Program supports re-entry education and workforce, including opportunity for financial and housing support. Lydia House maintains 38 beds in 15 units, to provide housing stability to qualified youth (18 to 22) to reach youth’s goal plan. Job Purpose The Huliau Youth Engagement Specialist (HYES) must follow a strength-based approach to help youth develop independent and transitional living skills. This method encourages positive reinforcement and offers non-judgmental feedback when youth seek support with decision-making or problem-solving. If young people experience natural consequences from their actions or choices, the specialist will assist them in resolving issues using non-punitive strategies. HYES supports beneficiaries under the guidance of the Huliau Program Manager and Leadership Team. Lydia House assists opportunity youth facing challenges such as houselessness, substance use, mental health issues, criminal involvement, and relationship conflicts. HYES may work independently with youth both individually and in groups, monitoring for crises or conflicts. The Huliau Youth Engagement Specialist helps create a safe, welcoming environment in on-site living programs, encourages building pilina (relationships), and mentors young adults. This role also addresses social-emotional needs, manages conflicts, and ensures adherence to guidelines through activities and guidance. This position covers swing shifts for the Huliau Program and Engagement Center, with shift times are based on program and youth needs. Shifts are 8 hours between 2:00 p.m. and 7:30 a.m. on weekdays, and Saturday at 8 a.m. to Monday at 7:30 a.m. on weekends. Report and work collaboratively with the Huliau Program Manager, Huliau Shift Leaders, Clinical Director, Case Managers, and Executive Director to ensure alignment between the purpose of Lydia House and the responsibilities of the Huliau Youth Engagement Specialist. Promote a welcoming and trauma informed environment. Independently lead youth engagement activities to support the development of the youth. Facilitate independent living skills individually and in group setting. Facilitate groups in collaboration with other Lydia House staff members. Support all activities to maintain a safe and positive environment to serve the youth at the Center. This might include: Prepare Lydia House for daily operations (materials for activities, maintain facility clean and organized, clothing closet, food accessibility, etc.) Contribute to the cleanliness of Lydia House (which may include sanitizing surfaces, washing materials such as blankets, sheets, towels, and other items, etc.) Support all Leads and other team members in specific tasks for Lydia House activities. Provide prearranged room checks to ensure the youth are following through on independent living skills and to ensure that the rooms are cleaned and maintained. Assist all youth accessing services, and attending programs, in Lydia House - including: Help navigate youth through all services requested from Lydia House. Support youth access to services and/or other special needs. Assist youth attending participating in any of the Lydia House activities. Provide any assistance requested by Leads, including accompanying youth to outside appointments. Promote and elevate youth voices and bridge youth feedback to Lydia House team for the services needed from Lydia House. Observes, collects, communicates, and reports daily any events and circumstances involving youth in the data management system. Support any administrative needs of the staff. Participate in data collection, inputting, and reporting (including providing written narratives) Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and workshops. Serve on internal and external committees to support Lydia House outcomes. Address any immediate basic needs, including social emotional, mentorship, or supportive activities for young adults as needed. Sets and supports alignment to rules established in the Aloha Agreement. Work along security on premises, and with manager on call, to manage respond to any urgent need. Monitor and deescalate any conflict which may arise. Other duties as required. Other duties Contributes to the Trust’s success by accepting new assignments, helping team members, learning new skills, and striving to improve team and organization results. Holiday, evening and weekend hours required as needed. Attend all relevant trainings and workshops that support the outcomes of LH. Travel may be required to other Hawaiian Islands, continent, and other locations for trainings and workshops. Qualifications Two-year degree related to social services or equivalent experience (life and work), four year degree preferred. Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
