CNC Turning Machinist

About the Opportunity

We're seeking an experienced CNC Turning Machinist to join a precision manufacturing team producing critical components for aerospace and other highly regulated industries. This position offers the opportunity to work with advanced machining equipment while contributing to the production of high-quality, tight-tolerance parts.

The ideal candidate is comfortable performing machine setups, making process adjustments, troubleshooting production issues, and ensuring parts consistently meet engineering and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

Machine Setup & Production

• Prepare and operate CNC turning centers for the production of precision-machined components.
• Install tooling, adjust offsets, and optimize machining parameters to achieve required specifications and cycle times.
• Monitor machining operations to ensure consistent quality and efficient production output.
• Operate Okuma CNC lathes and comparable turning equipment.
• Utilize conventional machining equipment for secondary operations, fixture modifications, and non-standard manufacturing tasks.
• Manage multiple production jobs simultaneously while maintaining schedule commitments.

Programming & Technical Interpretation

• Read and interpret engineering drawings, process instructions, manufacturing plans, and technical specifications.
• Review machine programs and make necessary edits to support production requirements.
• Apply knowledge of machining practices, tooling selection, and cutting techniques to improve performance and quality.
• Work with CNC controls and programming concepts to support troubleshooting and setup activities.

Quality & Inspection

• Conduct setup, in-process, and final inspections to ensure products meet customer and engineering requirements.
• Verify dimensions using precision measuring instruments including calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, bore gauges, and related inspection tools.
• Maintain compliance with drawing tolerances, GD&T requirements, and quality standards.
• Record inspection findings and production data accurately.

Troubleshooting & Continuous Improvement

• Diagnose machining, tooling, and equipment-related issues to reduce downtime and improve productivity.
• Communicate production concerns, non-conformances, and equipment problems to appropriate personnel.
• Participate in process improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, efficiency, and waste reduction.
• Work closely with manufacturing, quality, and engineering teams to support operational objectives.

Safety & Housekeeping

• Follow all safety procedures, company policies, and manufacturing best practices.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area while promoting a safety-first culture.
• Properly handle materials, tools, and equipment to ensure a safe working environment.

Minimum Qualifications

• Previous experience setting up and operating CNC turning equipment in a manufacturing setting.
• Strong understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and manufacturing documentation.
• Familiarity with CNC programming fundamentals, including G-code and M-code concepts.
• Experience using precision inspection and measurement equipment.
• Working knowledge of Siemens controls or similar CNC operating systems.
• Ability to prioritize workload while overseeing multiple machines or production jobs.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving capabilities.
• Excellent attention to detail and commitment to producing quality components.
• Effective communication skills and ability to work in a collaborative environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience manufacturing aerospace, defense, medical, or other precision-engineered products.
• Background operating Swiss-style CNC lathes or Swiss machining centers.
• Familiarity with Fanuc-controlled equipment.
• Experience machining close-tolerance parts in either production or job-shop environments.
• Flexibility to support various schedules, shift assignments, or overtime when needed.
• Proven track record of maintaining quality standards in a fast-paced machine shop.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Tukwila, WA.

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $35.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
