Position Details Position Title: Attorney Supervisor – Telework Job Code: JC-523597 Position #: 800-310-5749-007 Classification: ATTORNEY SUPERVISOR Salary Range: $12,590.00 - $16,900.00 A Number of Positions: 1 Work Location: Sacramento County Telework: Hybrid Job Type: Permanent, Full Time Job Description and Duties The California Department of Social Services (CDSS) – Legal Division – is hiring one permanent full‑time Attorney Supervisor in the Information, Personnel & Audits (IPA) Bureau of the Information, Technology & Administrative Litigation (ITAL) Branch. The Attorney Supervisor will supervise, direct, and evaluate a high‑functioning team of attorneys and paralegals, can act in a lead capacity in the Assistant Chief Counsel’s absence, and will develop strategies for complex assignments. The role involves independent legal representation in a wide range of employment matters, including personnel actions, policy reviews, discrimination and harassment claims, whistleblower complaints, criminal background reviews, conflict‑of‑interest matters, and other administrative proceedings. The Attorney Supervisor will prepare case materials and represent the Department before the State Personnel Board, Office of Administrative Hearings, and other administrative bodies. Special Requirements Background investigation clearance required prior to hire. Criminal record background check clearance by the Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation will be required at the time of appointment. Position designated under the Conflict-of-Interest Code. Qualifications Proven experience providing independent house counsel or governmental representation in employment law, including personnel actions, policy reviews, discrimination, harassment, retaliation, whistleblower complaints, criminal background reviews, and conflict‑of‑interest matters. Strong interpersonal communication skills and ability to convey complex legal issues to senior management. Excellent analytical and drafting abilities; ability to produce clear, concise legal opinions within tight deadlines. Experience supervising, mentoring, or managing legal staff. Experience leading high‑priority or complex cases for a governmental department. Preparedness to lead case preparation and representation before State Personnel Board, Office of Administrative Hearings, and other administrative bodies.
