Mammography Technologist Job Summary
The Mammography Technologist performs high-quality screening and diagnostic mammography examinations in accordance with ACR, MQSA, FDA, and state regulations. This role assists with breast imaging procedures, including ultrasound-guided procedures, stereotactic biopsies, and needle localizations, while ensuring exceptional patient care, image quality, and regulatory compliance.

The Mammography Technologist performs high-quality screening and diagnostic mammography examinations in accordance with ACR, MQSA, FDA, and state regulations. This role assists with breast imaging procedures, including ultrasound-guided procedures, stereotactic biopsies, and needle localizations, while ensuring exceptional patient care, image quality, and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities Mammography & Imaging
- Perform screening and diagnostic mammography exams on adult, adolescent, and geriatric patients.
- Perform 2D and 3D Digital Breast Tomosynthesis (DBT) imaging.
- Obtain high-quality diagnostic images using proper positioning and compression techniques.
- Perform magnification and spot compression views as needed.
- Utilize implant-displaced (Eklund) techniques when appropriate.
- Prepare patients for imaging procedures while ensuring comfort and safety.
- Assist physicians during:
- Stereotactic breast biopsies
- Breast needle localization procedures
- Ultrasound-guided breast procedures
- Perform specimen radiography when applicable.
- Prepare procedure rooms before and after examinations.
- Verify patient identity and imaging orders.
- Obtain and document patient history.
- Educate patients on mammography procedures and provide pre- and post-procedure instructions.
- Deliver compassionate, patient-centered care while accommodating age, cultural, language, and accessibility needs.
- Perform daily and routine mammography quality control testing.
- Maintain compliance with:
- MQSA
- ACR Accreditation Standards
- FDA regulations
- State licensing requirements
- Document all quality assurance and quality control activities.
- Ensure adherence to ALARA radiation safety principles.
- Assist with equipment calibration and performance monitoring.
- Accurately document patient information in the EMR.
- Manage imaging studies within PACS.
- Maintain complete and accurate procedure documentation.
- Assist with patient tracking, biopsy follow-up, and departmental statistics.
- Maintain HIPAA compliance and infection prevention standards.
- Participate in departmental quality improvement initiatives.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Adhere to organizational policies, procedures, and standards of professional conduct.
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Mammography Technologist.
- Experience performing both screening and diagnostic mammography.

- Bone Density (DEXA) Scanning
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Graduate of an AMA-approved School of Radiologic Technology.
- ARRT Registered Radiographer (ARRT-R)
- ARRT Mammography Certification (ARRT-M) (or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire, if permitted by employer policy)
- Current State Radiologic Technologist License
- English (Read, Write, Speak)
