Case Manager II - Domestic Violence (Temp - 3 Months) Part-time Department: Housing Services Compensation: up to USD 25 - hourly Background Since 1976, St. Joseph Center has been meeting the needs of low-income and homeless individuals and families in Venice and throughout Los Angeles County. The Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit community organization that assists people without regard for religious affiliation or lack thereof through 20+ programs in four pillars of service: Outreach and Engagement, Housing Services, Mental Health, and Education and Vocational Training. St. Joseph Center serves more than 10,000 people each year. Brief Description of Principal Activities Multifaceted intervention, prevention, mental health, and housing assistance is offered through street outreach and 9 service sites throughout Los Angeles County. St. Joseph Center also provides on-site services at five permanent supportive housing developments, and will provide services at an additional six more sites in the coming year. St. Joseph Center’s total holistic approach to services provide our clients with the help they need to regain their stability. Job Summary The Case Manager serves as a team member with several social service professional and paraprofessional staff ensuring the delivery of quality as well as adhering to the mission of St. Joseph Center. The Case Manager will provide case management to homeless families experiencing domestic violence including service linkage and housing support. The Case Manager’s key areas of responsibility include: In conjunction with the Program Manager and LAHSA’s DV Unit case management staff, evaluate families for permanent housing. Be responsible for a caseload of up to 20 families.Establish a case management and safety plan for each family; develop housing retention plans to address short-term and long-term housing goals. Assists with identifying internal and external resources to assist with multiple stressors as they relate to homelessness, domestic violence, substance abuse issues, etc. Provide housing stabilization services, which may include topics like money management, life skills, accessing transportation, understanding their lease, self-advocacy and other topics based on their needs. Provides interagency and intra-agency consultation, communication, coordination, and referrals. Establish and cultivate relationships with landlords and other housing providers to build a portfolio of housing options for participants. In conjunction with the housing specialist, assist families with the identification of appropriate housing and with lease up including negotiation of rental agreement with landlord. On an ongoing basis, act as advocate with landlord as needed. Enter data in required databases, compile and submit reports that track client status and support services provided. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned. Qualifications Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: The ability to communicate with and relate to a diverse group of people including clients, community, and other staff. Must have excellent administrative and organizational skills. Knowledge of case management principles and intervention techniques specific to homeless populations or other under-served groups. Knowledge of housing market/housing programs is desirable. The position requires an ability to work flexible hours including some early mornings and evenings. Bi-lingual Spanish/English desirable. Experience: 1+ years ofexperience providing case management services/advocacy with homeless and low-income families and/or families experiencing domestic violence. Demonstrated knowledge of trauma-informed crisis intervention, violence dynamics, domestic violence, intimate partner violence, human trafficking, stalking, child abuse/neglect, stalking, and elder abuse intervention, experience in Crisis Counseling. Ability to establish effective working relationships with internal and external partnering agencies. Education: Bachelor degree from an accredited college or university in social work, human services, psychology, or a related field. A combination of education and experience may be substituted. Direct Reports: This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities. Certificates, Licenses and Registrations: None Travel Requirements: Access to reliable transportation. Travel to clienthomesand SJC sites when needed.
