Job Opportunity: Unit Coordinator – Orthopedics & Urology Unit: Ellison 6 is a thirty‑six‑bed adult inpatient orthopedic/urology/surgical unit. The patient population includes postoperative and pre‑surgical orthopedic and urologic patients admitted from the Emergency Department, front door, or clinical admissions. Fast‑paced, exciting environment. Schedule: 24 hours per week, part‑time, 2 twelve‑hour night shifts, every Saturday and Sunday 7:00 pm–7:00 am. Job Summary Provides administrative support to unit‑based and hospital‑wide clinicians and staff in an inpatient unit, functioning as the liaison between the patient, visitors and clinicians. Effectively organizes priorities, completes tasks on time, and manages confidential patient information. Partners with nursing to coordinate day‑to‑day patient flow, communicating admissions, discharges and transfers to key players. Provides outstanding customer service at every interaction. Actual job duties may vary by department. Key Responsibilities Performs clerical duties to assist in general floor administration. Greets and interacts with patients, families, visitors and coworkers in person and via communication tools professionally. Receives, prioritizes, organizes and manages information at the central nursing station and throughout the unit. Schedules consultations, tests, procedures and patient transport to other departments. Enter accurate, timely information about admissions, discharges and transfers into the electronic medical record to facilitate efficient patient experience. Contacts ancillary service departments for equipment, services and supplies; tracks status and location; uses designated process for repairs. May assist the manager with payroll duties, staff scheduling or supervision of unit secretaries. Performs other duties as assigned and complies with all policies and standards. Qualifications Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent required; Associate’s Degree in a related field preferred. Experience: Customer Service experience in related or unrelated field preferred. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Proficiency with office procedures and equipment (filing, copying, scanning, printing, faxing). Proficiency in MS Office. Ability to proofread and edit written documents. Ability to use phone system. Managing one's time and the time of others. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills. Familiarity with medical terminology.
