Fitness and Membership Coordinator

This position reports to the Assistant Director of Recreation (#10403) and serves as a full-time professional member of USF St. Petersburg's Recreation staff. The primary purpose of this position is to oversee and provide leadership for the Fitness Center and its related programs, and to assist the Assistant Director with membership services initiatives. The Fitness Coordinator is responsible for the recruitment, hiring, supervision, and development of the Fitness Center student staff, Group Fitness Instructors, and Personal Trainers. This position creates, develops, and enforces policies and procedures for the Fitness Center, coordinates facility reservations, oversees operations, develops and upholds risk management policies, manages inventory, a nd markets programs to engage student participation . The Fitness Coordinator also assists the Assistant Director with membership services initiatives, including member engagement, retention efforts, and related administrative support. This position works closely with other Recreation program coordinators, Student Government, General Counsel, USF St. Petersburg Police Department, the Wellness Center, and other University departments. The Fitness Coordinator is responsible for an annual operating budget of over $100,000 for the Fitness Center and its programs. This position requires some night and weekend, supervisory hours, and must remain accessible by cell phone and/or email. This position is considered essential personnel for emergency management purposes and may be required to assist with emergency operations.

• Recruit, hire, train, supervise, evaluate, and terminate (when necessary) Fitness Center student and non-student OPS employees.
• Create and maintain schedules for all group fitness staff and relevant programming.
• Plan, promote, and facilitate in-house training for staff, students, and other members.
• Develop and implement professional development for all fitness staff.
• Provide support to the overall operational management of Recreation facility policies, quality service, programmatic success, participant safety, and facility security and cleanliness; conduct safety inspections and audits.
• Create and maintain group fitness and instructional class schedules; plan, implement, and evaluate fitness programs, special events, awareness weeks, and educational workshops; collaborate with campus and community partners to provide fitness/wellness programs, educational materials, presentations, and marketing; coordinate, host, and evaluate nationally recognized workshops and certifications through ACSM, NSCA, ACE, and similar organizations; assist with the coordination of fitness programs and services for special populations, non-traditional students, and community members; maintain statistical data for related programs to support reporting.
• Research and recommend fitness equipment for purchase; perform regular maintenance and cleaning of all fitness equipment, including documentation of maintenance and repairs; arrange trainings for maintenance of fitness equipment for the appropriate personnel, when necessary; communicate with vendors when needed.
• Operate within budget to meet staffing, programming, and equipment needs; develop budget projections for OPS staff, future programming, and specific equipment needs.
• Assist the Assistant Director with membership services initiatives and related duties as assigned, including new member support, renewal and retention outreach, billing and access-issue resolution, and other membership-related tasks as needs arise.
• Assist with department strategic planning, budgeting, and marketing efforts, and in establishing learning outcomes and supporting department goals.
• Assist the department in planning, developing, organizing, and directing camp programs.
• Assist with other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications: This position requires a Bachelor’s degree, with at least one year of related experience.
