Workers' Compensation Litigation Attorney

Role Overview As a Workers' Compensation Litigation Attorney, you will manage a diverse caseload in California Workers' Compensation defense. You'll work closely with claims professionals to set case strategy, assess risks, and push for effective resolutions. This position offers the flexibility of a primarily remote work environment while allowing you to engage in courtroom activities when necessary. Key Responsibilities Handle all phases of California Workers' Compensation defense, including pleadings, discovery, and trial preparation. Develop case strategies through thorough investigation, legal research, and risk assessment. Draft and argue various legal documents including motions and briefs. Prepare and present case evidence and witnesses during legal proceedings. Communicate effectively with clients and colleagues regarding case status and recommendations. Maintain professional relationships with all parties involved in the legal process. Contribute to a learning culture by mentoring others and engaging in team discussions. Stay updated on California Workers' Compensation laws and maintain required continuing legal education. Qualifications Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited institution. Active license to practice law in California. Proven legal research, writing, and advocacy skills. Exceptional case management, prioritization, and judgment abilities. Strong communication skills in a collaborative, matrixed work environment. Experience with WCAB hearings and depositions. Competency in legal research tools and case management systems. Desire to contribute to process improvements and mentor colleagues. Experience Required For Staff Attorney: Minimum of 2 years in legal practice with California Workers' Compensation experience. For Senior Staff Attorney: Minimum of 5 years handling complex California Workers' Compensation cases, with trial experience preferred. The Hartford is currently seeking applicants focusing primarily on the following areas: Los Angeles, Van Nuys, and Marina Del Rey, CA. Compensation The annualized base pay range for this position is $118,800 - $198,600, depending on experience and qualifications. This total compensation package may also include additional bonuses and incentives. The Hartford is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
