Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care on a flex unit serving both medical-surgical floor and stepdown patients based on census and hospital needs, with nurse-to-patient ratios of 6:1 (floor) and 3:1 (stepdown)
• Titrate drips per physician orders, including heparin, insulin, anti-hypertensives, antiarrhythmics, phenobarbital, ketamine, morphine/dilaudid/fentanyl PCAs, and TPN
• Monitor and manage patients on CPAP, BiPAP, high-flow oxygen, and ventilators in the stepdown setting; coordinate transfer to ICU for ventilator setting adjustments as needed
• Collaborate with Clinical Associates (nurse aides) and charge RNs to maintain safe, efficient patient care across a diverse, primarily medical diagnosis population
• Utilize Phillips telemetry monitoring equipment; remote telemetry surveillance center and central monitoring are available — RNs are not required to independently read telemetry strips
• Float to other floor or stepdown units as needed; agency RN positions are designated as weekend positions with an expectation to work approximately half of all recognized holidays

Required Qualifications

• Active RN licensure in good standing
• BLS certification required; ACLS may be required based on unit needs
• Demonstrated experience with Epic electronic health record system (required)
• Ability to manage a 6-patient med-surg assignment or a 3-patient stepdown assignment
• Competency with titratable drip management and care of patients on respiratory support equipment (CPAP, BiPAP, high-flow, ventilators)

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Prior stepdown, IMC, or PCU nursing experience
• Familiarity with Phillips telemetry monitoring systems
• Experience caring for a diverse medical patient population with complex diagnoses
