Buyer III

Position Overview The Buyer III will perform direct and indirect material purchasing, capital equipment and services to support the production plan at QuidelOrtho. This role follows good manufacturing practices, ISO requirements, and works with supply chain and production teams to develop strategies, minimize risks, and maintain appropriate inventory levels. The position is onsite in Carlsbad, CA. Responsibilities Purchase materials based on Min/Max reports, MRP, and business acumen. Coordinate with production and planning teams to ensure material availability for subcontractors. Determine kitting plans, communicate plans to stakeholders, and ensure on‑time delivery. Check purchase requisitions, obtain quotations, examine bids, and make awards. Source materials and services to support internal customer needs. Maintain purchased material inventory between Min and Max levels. Negotiate cost of materials, inbound freight, and purchase contract terms and conditions. Support R&D and new product development through participation in cross‑functional teams. Work with Quality Engineering and R&D to improve systems, ensure material availability, correct documentation, and required certificates. Manage and analyze inventory investment and turns. Develop and maintain effective supplier relationships, exercising ethical negotiation. Represent supply chain on supplier audits and surveys. Monitor supplier performance and take appropriate action. Analyze data and apply business intelligence for proposals and decisions. Carry out duties in compliance with GMPs, corporate policies, and FDA/ISO regulations. Provide guidance to supply chain team members and serve as “go to” person for material availability and pricing discussions. Travel to supplier audits as needed. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in a related field. At least 6 years of experience in supply chain or procurement in a highly regulated or analytical manufacturing environment. Strategic thinker with strong analytical and problem‑solving skills. Experience with diagnostics products. Proficient in MS Excel and other data‑analysis tools. Effective communication with all organizational levels and project coordination. Experience in KPI monitoring, process optimization, and continuous improvement. Not currently eligible for visa sponsorship. Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree in supply chain, operations, business administration, or related field. Knowledge of Lean manufacturing and inventory management principles. Advanced negotiation and contract writing skills. Certifications: ISM, APICS CPIM, CFPIM, CIRM, or NAPM CPM. Familiarity with QSRs, ISO 13485, CMDR regulations. Key Working Relationships Internal: support all internal customers and provide procurement information. External: negotiate contracts, product availability, lead time, and pricing with outside suppliers; conduct supplier surveys and business meetings. Work Environment & Physical Demands The role involves office and manufacturing environments, handling potentially hazardous chemicals. Typical duties include meetings, desk work, and analytical tasks. Ability to lift up to 30lbs, walk, stand, and sit for long periods. Visual acuity required for close and distance vision. Personal protective equipment may be required. Compensation & Benefits Salary range: $89,008.92 – $110,000 per year, with bonus eligibility.
