Sterile Processing Technician

Job Summary:

The Sterile Processing Technician (SPT) in Surgical Services is responsible for the decontamination, sterilization, and preparation of surgical instruments and equipment used in acute hospital operating rooms. This role ensures all instruments meet strict sterilization standards to support safe and effective surgical procedures. The technician works closely with surgical teams and adheres to infection control protocols, maintaining a sterile environment and inventory management.

Responsibilities:

Decontaminate, clean, and sterilize surgical instruments and equipment according to established protocols.
Inspect instruments for damage and functionality prior to sterilization.
Assemble and package surgical trays and sets for specific procedures.
Maintain accurate records of sterilization processes and inventory.
Ensure compliance with infection control and safety standards.
Collaborate with surgical and clinical staff to meet procedural needs.
Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting of sterilization equipment.

Required Skills & Certifications:

Certification from CBSPD (Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution) or IAHCSMM (International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materiel Management).
Experience in an acute hospital operating room environment.
Knowledge of sterilization methods, infection control standards, and surgical instrumentation.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced surgical services environment.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

Additional training or certifications in sterile processing or surgical technology.
Experience with inventory management systems and electronic documentation.

Special Considerations:

Candidates must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility to be eligible for travel contracts.
Active compact nursing license recognized by Swedish facilities is honored.
Work involves strict adherence to sterile technique and infection control protocols.

Scheduling:

Five days per week, 8-hour day shifts.
Start date is ASAP with scheduling aligned to surgical service needs.
