Academic Advisor advises university/college students in course and major selection, requirements for selected area of concentration, and post-college plans. Assists students in setting academic goals, course planning and career development. Being an Academic Advisor may work with individual students or groups. Requires a bachelor’s degree in counseling or related field or its equivalent. Additionally, Academic Advisor typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Academic Advisor gains exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function. Occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. To be an Academic Advisor typically requires 2 to 4 years of related experience.

Our company is looking for a Academic Advisor to join our team.

Responsibilities:

  • Participates in ongoing department projects, or other special projects, as needed;
  • Monitors student degree plans and course schedules to ensure students are remaining in compliance with NCU policy and degree plan requirements;
  • Deliver messages to students on behalf of the University as needed, not limited to above mentioned tasks;
  • Contribute to a positive and productive team atmosphere and working conditions;
  • Development of appropriate education plans to establish academic and career goals and advise students on selection of courses;
  • Assist with the facilitation of new student orientation programming by presenting college information and advising students;
  • Help students gain or improve necessary skills for academic success including goal setting, development of study skills, and career/major planning;
  • Complete course registration and academic planning with assigned students;
  • Work with Department Chairs to manage discipline specific academic issues;
  • Schedule available consultation times on Google Calendar worksheet;
  • Advise a specialty student area (athletics, students with disabilities, allied health, student veterans, etc.);
  • Gain an understanding of the international graduate student admissions process to more efficiently serve the international graduate students;
  • Maintain documentation in student records that is objective, complete, and accurate;
  • Conduct outreach to students (phone calls, emails, advising on wheels, drop-in advising) to support the college’s retention efforts;
  • Effectively communicate in a timely manner with graduate students.

Requirements:

  • Conversant with the reformed faith and classical Christian education according to the Veritas Statement of Faith and Philosophy;
  • Teachable, professional, and organized;
  • Ability to navigate a variety of online educational tools and programs;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Ability to remain flexible and handle vague or changing information;
  • Bachelor’s degree;
  • Bilingual; Spanish speaking and writing skills;
  • Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of institution’s programs, academic requirements, policies, procedures, and support services;
  • Willingness to share knowledge, learn from mistakes, accept personal responsibility, and develop multiple competencies;
  • Ability to perform all of the essential functions, skills, and specifications of the position;
  • Ability to follow leadership and college-wide procedures;
  • One year advising experience;
  • Ability to meet deadlines, manage multiple tasks, organize and prioritize tasks;
  • Master’s degree in College Student Personnel, Higher Education, Advising, or related field;
  • Demonstrate excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
