Our company is looking for a Linux Systems Engineer to join our team.

Responsibilities:

  • Implement tools to provide analytic trend analysis and performance data;
  • Research and recommend emerging technologies to increase cost effectiveness, system ability and future expandability;
  • Act as a liaison between IT management and remote branches and technicians;
  • Performing operating systems software updates, upgrades, and patches;
  • Deploy new systems in a rapidly expanding environment;
  • Administrate Linux systems and applications;
  • Willingness to participate in occasional project activities in off-hours, including weekends;
  • Preparing required documentation, including program-level and user-level documentation;
  • Participate in a 24×7 on call rotation;
  • Using the company’s existing tools track and monitor key metrics and logs;
  • Maintain monitoring systems and participate in creating new monitoring solutions;
  • Completing day to day operations & maintenance (O&M) tasks;
  • Assessing server loads and working with Technical Leads on developing tuning recommendations;
  • Providing operational pager and phone duty support;
  • Assisting in server maintenance and special projects during extended work hours.

Requirements:

  • Demonstrated experience with Linux system administration and engineering;
  • Must have a TS/SCI with Poly to be considered;
  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science or related field. Master’s degree a plus;
  • Knowledge of networking, Ethernet, TCP/IP and remote communications;
  • Experience working on VMware virtualization preferred;
  • Experience with VMWare solutions;
  • Self-motivated and able to multi-task and communicate effectively with little supervision;
  • Experience with packagement systems;
  • Experience designing or architecting IT systems or services;
  • Due to nature of the work a US Government Security Clearance is required;
  • Minimum of 5 years of Linux system administration experience (Ubuntu/Debian preferred);
  • Demonstrable advanced skills in Linux concepts, administration, and troubleshooting;
  • Experience with orchestration: Ansible (preferred), Chef or Puppet;
  • Experience with Nagios or other monitoring suites is highly desired;
  • Highly trustworthy persons with the ability to safeguard company/customer proprietary and intellectual property information.
