Senior Linux Engineer Job Description Template
Our company is looking for a Senior Linux Engineer to join our team.
Responsibilities:
- Support the requests of the production and development teams to solve any problems related with the Linux servers;
- Develop and oversee the backup, replication and disaster recovery strategies;
- Maintain documentation for procedures, configurations and programs;
- Ensure the Linux servers adhere to NIST and Department standards;
- Perform server hardware maintenance and upgrades;
- Develop automation scripts using BASH and PowerShell. Integrate with Control-M scheduling software where feasible;
- Maintain software repositories and apply software updates;
- Install, configure and maintain servers in a mixed Windows and Linux environment;
- Maintain/monitor the health of the Linux servers through both automated and manual processes.
Requirements:
- Ability to make decisions with limited information;
- Very strong problem-solving skills, with proven ability to analyze and determine root cause and resolution for complex problems;
- One support database (MS SQL, Oracle, or DB2) – at least 2 years of experience;
- Security Clearance: Secret – must have Interim Secret to start;
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
- Education: Masters degree in computer science, business or closely related area. BS in CS or EE, or equivalent;
- SAP Basis experience with Installs/Upgrades, tuning and troubleshooting of SAP products: Explorer, XI R3/R4, Lumira, Data Quality Management;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- SUSE Linux at least 2 years of experience;
- Proven crisis management skills;
- In-depth knowledge of the following areas: Data Center Networking and Data Center Products (UCS, Nexus, FlexPod, Vblock, ACE, etc.);
- Knowledge in at least one upper tier scripting language like Python, Perl, or Ruby;
- Provide guidance and leadership to less experienced engineers;
- Linux system management, setup, configuration, hardening, backup and recovery (preferably SUSE) at least 2 years of experience;
- Familiar with Fiber Channel over Ethernet, Fiber channel storage area network architectures and/or Network Attached Storage (NAS) Environments.
