Lead Medical Assistant Job Description Template
Our company is looking for a Lead Medical Assistant to join our team.
Responsibilities:
- Performs other duties as assigned;
- Presents medication to patient and observes ingestion or administers medication using specified procedures;
- Takes vital signs or observes patient to detect response to medication, and reports reactions;
- Restocks medication inventories;
- Attends weekly meeting with Associate Director to discuss Medical Assistant concerns and/or provide feedback on matters regarding Medical Assistants;
- Prepares daily schedules for Medical Assistant coverage of lunch periods, evening hours, and other requirements;
- Assists with orientation and onboarding of all new Medical Assistants and participates in Quality Assurance and Infection Control Meetings;
- Monitors weekly stocking checklists for completion and archives accordingly;
- Ensures Medical Assistants are scheduled for annual lab competencies with the Clinical Laboratory Technologist during summer break;
- Prepares and maintains written Medical Assistant schedules for reference by clinical staff, support members, and managers;
- Maintains and ensures daily assignment sheets are posted and updated as needed, noting lab and urgent care Medical Assistant coverage.
Requirements:
- Requires excellent communications skills enabling adequate information flow in a pleasant manner;
- High school diploma or equivalent required;
- Within 8 weeks of appointment, must take and maintain standard CPR certification;
- Requires certification from a nationally recognized organization such as AAMA, AMT or NHCA;
- Minimum 4 years’ experience in urgent care, family practice or similar setting;
- Position requires some evening and Saturday hours;
- Familiarity with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system preferred;
- Ability to work well in a team setting with minimal supervision and make sound judgment within scope of practice;
- Previous experience as a lead Medical Assistant strongly preferred;
- Must be well organized and detailed oriented with ability to multitask and tactfully handle stressful and difficult situations;
- Outstanding customer service skills with ability to build relationships with patients and anticipate patient and provider needs.
