PRN Registered Nurse Job Description Template
Our company is looking for a PRN Registered Nurse to join our team.
Responsibilities:
- Effectively communicates with coworkers, psychiatrists and pediatrician;
- Provides ongoing education for clients and staff;
- Administers medications and monitors for side effects;
- Identifies and provides appropriate level of care and planning for both medical and psychiatric needs;
- Assumes administrative and clinical call on a scheduled basis when requested;
- Ensures employees are assigned duties and responsibilities to the level of their expertise, licensure or certification;
- Cleanliness, maintenance, sanitation and appearance of unit and appropriately notifies security of any infractions needing correction or attention;
- As assigned conducts staff meetings for all supervised health care providers to identify problems, propose solutions, set goals;
- Post orders, if applicable, per site contract;
- Attends monthly institutional staff meetings as directed by the DON or Administrator;
- Maintains composure in stressful situations, aware of own limitations and seeks guidance as necessary from the Director of Nursing;
- Direct patient care;
- Other duties as assigned by the Health Service Administrator or Director of Nursing;
- As delegated by the Director of Nursing, annually evaluates performance of supervised staff according to established policy and procedure;
- Assists in the collection of monthly statistics as assigned.
Requirements:
- Provide guidance, supervise and monitor nursing care provided by licensed vocational/practical nursing staff and non-licensed medical staff;
- Apply appropriate nursing skills in the area and treatment of inmates/residents;
- Attend sick call with the physician to see inmates/residents; prepare a list of inmates/residents to be examined; prepare examining room and equipment;

- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office to include Outlook, Word and Excel;
- Minimum of 1 yr. exp. in medical surgical, behavioral health or substance abuse nursing;
- BLS certification;
- Must be able to read medical documents, such as doctor’s orders, psychological evaluations, dietitian assessments, and write routine reports;
- Experience using electronic medical records and Microsoft Office products;
- Must have a current MD State RN license;
- CPR certification required;
- Communicate effectively with patients and staff.
