Our company is looking for a Staff Attorney to join our team.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with other program providers to integrate services within Swords to Plowshares’ continuum of care;
  • Perform in-depth research and prepare written materials relating to legal issues faced by veterans;
  • Represent clients at hearings before the VA Regional Office, and Board of Veterans Appeals;
  • Understands the Discover contract management tool and begins utilizing it to manage workflow, tracks contracts, and retains accurate contract records;
  • Submit reports, attend meetings, and perform administrative tasks, as required;
  • Communicates clearly with management, advisory attorneys, other internal clients and third-parties, and escalates issues as necessary;
  • Coordinate within legal team on case strategies;
  • Employee must be able to perform all essential job requirements and responsibilities within what would be considered reasonable accommodation;
  • Conduct legal research and draft legal briefs;
  • Assist with research and writing of reports, studies and analyses;
  • Collaborate with clients and partners;
  • Periodically s upervise legal interns;
  • Research and draft briefs, motions and memoranda;
  • Draft, submit and present advocacy, legal opinions, and testimony on proposed projects and policies in administrative venues;
  • Lobby before the Colorado General Assembly and state agencies.

Requirements:

  • Demonstrated interest in and commitment to social justice, civil rights, and gender equity;
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with ability to prioritize competing deadlines, take direction from more than one manager;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and interest in significant client interaction;
  • Embraces technology, including leading-edge case management systems;
  • Ability to breakdown complex and technical information to ensure people from all language and educational levels are able to comprehend;
  • Ability to work independently as well as within a team;
  • Some exp erience with strategic planning;
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills, a sense of humor, and a positive attitude;
  • Willingness to work irregular hours to meet the needs of clients;
  • Team player, collaborative, and able to receive and act on feedback;
  • Graduate of an accredited law school and licensed to practice law in Pennsylvania;
  • Cultural sensitivity and ability to relate well and effectively in a diverse workplace with diverse client population;
  • Some experience with law and policy and decision-makers in other western states;
  • A minimum of one year prior work experience in immigration law. 2-3 years’ experience preferred;
  • Must have valid U.S. driver’s license. Work travel is required, insurance coverage and access to a reliable vehicle.
