Histology Technologist Job Description

Histology Technologist performs complex histological procedures by cutting, mounting, and studying specimens of human tissue to provide data on the functioning of tissues and organs, and the causes or progress of disease. Uses computerized equipment and records observations from tests. Being a Histology Technologist may require ASCP registration. Requires a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent. Additionally, Histology Technologist typically reports to a supervisor or manager. Typically requires Histotechnologist, HTL (ASCP). The Histology Technologist gains exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function. Occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. To be a Histology Technologist typically requires 2 to 4 years of related experience.

Our company is looking for a Histology Technologist to join our team.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform a variety of extremely difficult, delicate, and complex tissue tests;
  • Label slides for final microscopic examination;
  • Stain slides via routine stains, immunostains, and special stains;
  • Perform cover slipping of slides and prepare tissue for electron microscopic study;
  • Performs other duties as assigned relating to the responsibilities of a Histology Technologist;
  • Prepare a wide variety of special stained slides requiring many complex and delicate processes;
  • Perform routine and multiple staining of tissue sections including careful timing and counterstaining;
  • Perform sectioning of tissue with the use of a clinical microtome.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of one (1) year of experience within the last three (3) years (2-3 years in an acute care setting is preferred);
  • Experience in U.S. Government facilities in preferred;
  • An Bachelor-level degree in a related field from an accredited educational institution.
