R&D Technician Job Description Template
Our company is looking for a R&D Technician to join our team.
Responsibilities:
- Work with Customer Service and Sales on product training;
- Enforce sound safety and housekeeping practices, keep R&D work areas cleaned and organized;
- Perform on site services, installs, and demos for Customers both domestic and international, when necessary;
- Fill out R&D Reports week; make sure all hours are accounted for (Reports due every Friday morning);
- Analyzes engineering drawings and specifications to plan layout, assembly, and welding operations;
- Extensive testing and document by both video and written reports any product samples that may arrive;
- Extensively document process and materials for creation of old and new products;
- Assist in Quality Control tasks and reporting, as needed;
- Create and update packaging reports for old and new products including crating for container loading;
- Fabricate and build prototypes and test products;
- Must identify and measure material, able to produce products consistently with quality and accuracy;
- Evaluate products to determine improvements;
- Assemble and test Ultra High Vacuum systems, components and assemblies;
- Perform mechanical design and documentation as needed (fixtures.etc.);
- Support Manufacturing engineers to assemble capital equipment, build and test vacuum assemblies.
Requirements:
- Familiarity with laboratory techniques and practices;
- Ability to prioritize effectively and multi-task within an environment of shifting deadlines and demands;
- Able to work independently and within a team setting;
- Bachelor’s Degree in scientific field (chemistry or biology preferred);
- Experience with pump technologies such as Ion pumps, getters, titanium sublimation pumps, turbo pumps, mechanical roughing pumps;
- Computer aided drafting experience is a plus, preferably Solid Works;
- Ability to work independently, competently and within a team;
- AA or BS in a technical field – experience as a R&D Tech or Manufacturing Engineer;
- Ability to work well under compressed time constraints and manage multiple projects at one time;
- Willing to learn and implement process/product improvements;
- Ability to read from engineering drawings or schematics;
- Experience with computers, including MS Excel, MS Word, and Outlook;
- Cart Maintenance – Experience with steel fabrication equipment: cut-off saws, plasma cutters, grinders;
- Cart maintenance – Experience operating MIG welding equipment;
- Ability to teach, develop, document, update and improve production processes.
