Bioinformatics Scientist Job Description Template
Our company is looking for a Bioinformatics Scientist to join our team.
Responsibilities:
- Validate biomarker strategies using pharmacodynamic end point integration;
- Use bioinformatic tools to support integrated data mining across a highly integrated data set;
- Analyze and interpret experimental data including RNAseq and whole exome sequencing for next generation experimental design;
- Consult across project teams to formulate bioinformatic hypotheses;
- Use bioinformatic analyses to support preclinical model selection that connects cancer model genetics to patient selection biomarker hypotheses;
- Develop computational methods and perform analysis of datasets from next-generation sequencing applications;
- Integrate internal and public available databases in omics, pathways and genetics to support the drug target identification and biomarker discovery;
- Develop analysis strategies and visualizations to help provide insights to interpret genomic data for clinical diagnostics and other applications;
- Proactively engage with biology, genetics, pharmacology and biomarker teams in our Company Research Labs to identify collaborative projects.
Requirements:
- PhD with strong background in computational biology or related field, or equivalent experience;
- Significant experience developing software for deployment on Linux/Unix and cloud services;
- Experience with containers (Docker), distributed data stores and computing frameworks such as Spark is highly desirable;
- Ability of independent thinking and problem solving;
- A publication track record on computational biology/bioinformatics is a plus;
- At least three years research experience for BS degree or one year for Master degree in bioinformatics, computational biology or machine learning;
- Knowledge of next-generation sequencing technology;
- Experience with high-performance Linux cluster and cloud computing;
- Team player with excellent communication and evidence of leadership skills;
- 3+ years of experience in industry bioinformatics/computational biology positions of increasing responsibility;
- Proficiency in Python and R in a Unix/Linux environment;
- Experience developing software/pipelines in Python, C/C++ or Java;
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with cross-functional project teams;
- Excellent interpersonal and team skills;
- Obsesses over getting the details right but pragmatic to ensure on-time releases.
