Our company is looking for a Copy Editor to join our team.
Responsibilities:
- Copy edit (including proofing and simple fact-checking) short news articles and features for online radio content service;
- Plans, writes, edits, and voices news broadcasts;
- Gathers and verifies factual information through interviews, observation and research;
- Update stories as news develops;
- Proof pages and read behind other staffers’ edits;
- Researches to assist writers (“producers”) if needed;
- Find any grammatical, punctuation, and spelling errors in written content and correcting them;
- Employing dynamic news judgment and ethical guidelines to select and edit a wide range of stories and photos;
- Employing creativity and independent news judgment to text editing and otherwise preparing work for publication;
- Finalizes content using digital audio editing software;
- May specialize in a particular field of news broadcasting (e.g. political, traffic, finance or military);
- Editing content and designing modules using the paper’s computer production system;
- Edit and design the Times Digest, published in afternoon, evening and night editions;
- Check and rewrite text to ensure clarity, readability and adherence to editorial policies;
- Must be a good team player ready to do whatever is needed to deliver the best content to our radio affiliates.
Requirements:
- Ability to work long hours on deadline;
- Ability to meet strict daily and weekly deadlines, and adjust to changing priorities;
- Motivated and well-organized;
- Strong writing skills;
- Proficient in media production and broadcast systems;
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written;
- Experience working in professional services a plus;
- 2+ years of writing, editing, or related experience;
- Detail oriented;
- Outstanding positive attitude and eagerness to learn;
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information;
- Well-rounded communication skills for conducting interviews;
- Exceptional knowledge and understanding of grammar, punctuation and spelling;
- Proactive nature;
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism or a related subject.
