What will I do in this position if hired?

In this position, you will perform a variety of accounting support duties that could include one or more of the following: operating the secure payment system; reviewing reports and inputting data into the automated financial management system; making payments to travelers, vendors, grants and/or other Federal agencies; supporting accounts receivable and account reconciliation activities; and participating in special projects.

Typical assignments include:

* Making detailed examination of transactions processed in the system to ensure they agree with accounting records.

* Researching transactions and prepares routine requests for information and supporting documents.

* Responding to inquiries from other program offices, regional offices, vendors, states, congressional offices, and other Federal agencies.

* Entering data into the financial management system from financial documents using a computer data entry terminal.

* Reviewing accounts in the accounting system to ensure individual transactions agree with and are supported by documentation.

* Preparing routine requests for information, source and supporting documents or responds to inquiries for other kinds of information

Qualifications

Current Federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band in the Federal service. The time-in-grade and qualification requirements must be met within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement.

To qualify for this position at the GS-05 level, you must possess one full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-04 level in the Federal government, which has equipped you with the skills needed to successfully perform the duties of the position. Experience may be obtained in the federal government, a state or local government, or private sector, and must demonstrate the following:

* Reviewing and processing accounting transactions and/or invoices for payment or collection; and

* Validating data entered into a variety of accounts integrated into a large complex, financial system for accuracy; and

* Using automated financial accounting systems for advanced financial functions.

To qualify for this position at the GS-06 level, you must possess one full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 level in the Federal government, which has equipped you with the skills needed to successfully perform the duties of the position. Experience may be obtained in the federal government, a state or local government, or private sector, and must demonstrate the following:

* Utilizing accounting systems and automated financial systems and knowledge of basic accounting concepts and internal controls; and

* Determining appropriations and funds; and

* Determining procurement authorities such as commitments, obligations, receiving reports, and contract amendments.
