CNC Machinist - Full Time/ Permanent

THE SHORT VERSION

Intercon is a heavy machinery manufacturer, and we need a CNC Machinist who likes making chips fly and making real progress every shift. We fabricate, machine, paint, and assemble products for the commercial marine, defense, and mining industries — parts that end up holding tug-and-barge units together in open water and supporting U.S. Navy ships.

This is real machining, not fixture work. You will run large horizontal mills, setting large workpieces per work instructions — 3-point setups, parts held in a relaxed state, the kind of work that takes a machinist who actually knows what they are doing.

WHY YOU WOULD WANT THIS JOB

• The work is real. Intercon has been building heavy equipment in Riverside since 1958. Our ATB couplers hold ocean-going tug-and-barge units together in open water and account for half of all US fuel movement by ocean. Our propulsion equipment supports U.S. Navy destroyers, aircraft carriers, and submarines.
• Real machining skill. This is not fixture work. You will set large workpieces using 3-point setups and parts held in a relaxed state, following the work instructions provided.
• Stability. Nearly 70 years in business and a large backlog in marine and defense work.

WHAT YOU WILL ACTUALLY BE DOING

• Performing all machine operating duties on large horizontal mills and related equipment
• Reviewing drawings and working from them accurately
• CNC programming and editing
• Setting up large workpieces according to provided work instructions, and making improvements when needed
• Maintaining a clean and safe work environment

Requirements

• Experience operating large horizontal mills, including setting up large workpieces from provided work instructions
• Familiarity with 3-point setup and setting up parts in a relaxed state — this is not fixture work
• Familiar with older Fanuc controls (18M) and the newer 30iB control
• Ability to read and understand drawings
• Ability to read ID/OD micrometers and calipers
• A solid understanding of the fundamentals of setting up workpieces
• Ability to work on your own and stay self-motivated
• Experience with Okuma a plus

THE HONEST PART

This is shop floor work. Standard PPE is required, and you will be around heavy machinery and large-scale parts for the length of your shift. The shop is hot in July and cold in January — this is heavy manufacturing, not a climate-controlled office.

If you already know your way around a large horizontal mill and take pride in getting a large workpiece set up right, this is a place where that skill is valued and paid accordingly.

This is a full-time, safety sensitive position. Starting pay $25 – $35 per hour, based on qualifications.
