Utility Laboratory Sampler

As engineers, architects, construction/program managers, environmental professionals and beyond, we play a significant role in shaping our communities through the services we provide. The Soils and Materials Laboratory Technician performs construction materials testing on soil, aggregates, asphalt, and concrete in compliance with industry standards such as AMRL, CCRL, and AASHTO Test Methods. The lab technician will learn and demonstrate competence in all laboratory methods. The lab technician is under the general supervision of the location manager and reports to the Laboratory Engineer for laboratory quality control.

Performs testing and measurements under the direction of the project manager, lab manager, or supervisors.

Has the knowledge to, or to learn, and demonstrates the ability to accurately perform testing according to recognized standards.

Perform laboratory testing of soil, concrete, and asphalt associated with civil engineering construction projects, including DSA, OSHPD, and USACE requirements.

Furnishes draft testing reports. All discrepancies shall be brought to the immediate attention of the project manager, lab manager, or supervisor.

Notifies supervisor, and/or project manager of problems and deviations from plans and specifications.

Complete and comprehensive communication with project personnel to ensure the effective management of the project.

Maintains laboratory quality control to ensure the accuracy of test results.

Performs laboratory equipment maintenance and calibration.

Perform field inspection, testing, and sampling as needed.

Ability to make good decisions using sound, professional judgment with minimal supervision.

Physical ability to perform labor-intensive work, including but not limited to the safe handling and transportation of concrete samples, soil samples, and other lab related materials.

Demonstrates ability to accurately perform testing according to recognized standards.

Strong problem-solving skills, including identifying data quality issues.

Familiar with Microsoft Office (Word and Excel).

Requires a high school diploma or equivalent.

Experience with ASTM, AASHTO testing procedures for soils, aggregates, asphalt, concrete, and masonry is ideal but not required.

ACI strength of Concrete, Aggregates, and Aggregates Base Certifications required, or ability to obtain certifications immediately.
