Counselor I - Evening Counselor

The Admission Counselor position reports to the Director ofUndergraduate Recruitment and will assist with recruiting,selecting, and enrolling a dynamic class of first-year students tothe college. In addition, this position will attend admission events and will travel domestically for a period of up to eightweeks to visit high schools, conduct information sessions, attend college fairs, and build relationships with counselors. This is animportant role that requires the ability to engage well with prospective students and to detail the positive attributes of the college and has a direct bearing on the college's revenuefigures.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES Recruit students for the college, assisting with meeting thecollege's admissions and revenue targets

Communicate with and advise prospective students asnecessary

Provide counseling to parents, applicants, and guidancecounselors regarding the college's admission policies andprocedures

Maintain communication with prospective students and familymembers, answering questions and scheduling meetings as required toprovide them with the information they require about campus life,programming, tuition, and courses of study

Review and evaluate undergraduate admissions applications basedon the college's recruiting goals and standards, accepting,deferring, waitlisting, or rejecting students as appropriate

Plan and execute spring and fall recruitment schedules, events,and travel, visiting high schools, attending college fairs, andhosting one-on-one meetings in an assigned geographic area

Meet with walk-in visitors, handle phone calls, and givepresentations to guests who are taking a tour of the college

Participate in projects as required

Attend and assist at events and at the Visitor Center asrequired

Serve as liaison to on-campus departments and off-campusorganizations to help increase the number and quality ofapplications

Perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS - Qualifications are deemed required or preferred and represent what is needed to effectively perform job. Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required

1-3 years of experience working in college admissions,orientation, residence life, or other student-facing office, eitheras a student or in a professional capacity, required

Valid driver's license required

1 year of previous professional experience in collegeadmissions preferred

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES - May be representative, butnot all-inclusive, of those knowledge, skills, and abilitiescommonly associated with the job. Exceptional accuracy and attention to detail required

Superior interpersonal communication skills, and the ability topresent information in public as well as in one-on-onesituations

Good computer skills and the ability to learn new computersoftware easily

Self-starter with excellent organizational and problem-solvingskills

Strong customer service skills and the ability to engage withprospective students and parents in a patient and positivemanner

Sound independent judgment

Ability to plan and coordinate schedules and events

Availability to travel domestically extensively required

Ability to attend admissions events on evenings and weekendsrequired

Knowledge of Emerson College programs and servicespreferred

Ability to have continuous oral and written communication withprospective students, co-workers and supervisors isessential.

Repetitive movements, occasional lifting of up to 10 pounds,reaching, lifting, stooping and the ability to read a computerscreen, detect color-coding and read fine print will beexpected.

WORK ENVIRONMENT - Environmental or atmospheric conditionscommonly associated with the performance of the functions of thisjob. General office conditions. Exposed to moderate noiselevels

Involves significant domestic travel

Compensation: $47,550.00 - $56,950.00 annually, commensurate withexperience.
