Recreation Program CoordinatorThe City of Coeur d'Alene is hiring for the Recreation Program Coordinator position with the Parks & Recreation department. The Recreation Program Coordinator implements and coordinates youth and adult recreation programs, events, and activities. This position monitors and assists in the operation of multiple ongoing and seasonal outdoor and indoor programs. It requires thorough knowledge of playing rules and regulations of sports such as adult and youth basketball, soccer, baseball, softball, and football. The work schedule includes evening and weekends. The position is under the direct supervision of the Recreation Superintendent with leeway for independent judgment and initiative. The position directs seasonal and part-time employees. The position requires an Associate's Degree in recreation and a Bachelor's Degree is preferred. One year experience working in a public recreation program is preferred. CPR and First Aid certifications are required. The position works in a public building and outdoor environment with exposure to adverse weather conditions. This position has contact with the public under occasional stressful and emotional conditions.Examples of DutiesCoordinates and implements adult and youth recreation programs, events and activities; Monitors and assists in the operation of multiple ongoing and seasonal indoor and outdoor recreation programs; Schedules, provides information for, registers participants, and collects fees for all City recreation programs; Assists in recruiting and training seasonal and part-time employees for duties as officials, referees, umpires, and scorekeepers; Schedules and assigns officials and performs their duties in their absence, as needed; Prepares and disseminates information on programs to the public including maintaining Department website; Coordinates special projects such as lighting, scoreboard installations, and related projects; Assists in maintenance of equipment; Monitors conduct of public and participants during programs to ensure compliance with behavior guidelines and safety procedures; Performs snow removal and assists in cleanup of City after weather-related events; Prepares and presents oral and written reports on Department activities; Coordinates with public and private party user groups, completing necessary site preparation, monitoring the facility during events, and assisting the public as needed; Regularly inspects recreational facilities for safety issues and mitigates issues as needed; Responds to management's, supervisor's, co-workers' and citizens' questions and comments in a courteous, thorough and timely manner; Performs time management and scheduling functions, meets deadlines, and sets project priorities; Maintains strict confidentiality of all matters; Assists other department and City employees as needed or requested; Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with City policies, procedures, and safety practices.Secondary Duties and Responsibilities:Performs duties of co-workers in their absence; Serves as staff representative to Jewett House Senior Citizen Center; Assists in field layout and maintenance, as needed; Serves as Tournament Director, as needed; Assists with City special events and activities, as needed; Performs other duties as assigned.Minimum Requirements:High school diploma or GED; Associate's Degree in recreation is required and a Bachelor's Degree is preferred; Idaho Driver's License is required; CPR and First Aid certification is required; One (1) year experience in a public recreation program is preferred; or An equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities to successfully perform the essential functions of the position may be considered.Supplemental Information:Knowledge of: Methods, materials, tools, and standard practices of implementing and coordinating adult and youth recreation programs, events and activities; Methods, materials, tools, and standard practices of recreation field maintenance and layout; Methods, materials, tools, and standard practices of recreational building maintenance and set up; Rules and regulations for adult and youth basketball, soccer, baseball, softball, and football; Operation and maintenance of hand tools; Operation of personal computer and laptop and related software applications; Operation of specialized recreation equipment including, but not limited to, field groomers, line markers, scoreboards, and related equipment; Department policies and procedures; Customer service methods, techniques, and objectives; Basic math techniques and skills; Basic employee supervisory and training techniques and methods; Public sector, government, or related environment and operations, including general municipal management terminology, codes, acts, and regulations. While performing the duties of this classification, the employee works in a public building and outdoor setting where the noise level in the work environment is usually moderate and that includes exposure to power equipment and inclement weather.
