Job Description

Mary Washington Healthcare is seeking an experienced Respiratory Therapist with strong NICU experience for a travel assignment. This role is not exclusively NICU-based and requires flexibility to rotate between NICU, Adult Critical Care, Emergency Department, Pediatric Unit, ICU Stepdown, and general respiratory care units. Candidates must possess strong neonatal respiratory skills and hands-on NICU experience, not simply occasional NICU float exposure.

This is an excellent opportunity for respiratory therapists who are comfortable managing both neonatal and adult critical care populations in a community hospital and Level II Trauma environment while utilizing Epic EMR.

Responsibilities:

• Provide comprehensive respiratory care to neonatal, pediatric, and adult patients.
• Manage ventilator support including CPAP, BiPAP, SIMV, High Frequency Oscillator, and ventilator weaning.
• Assist with high-risk deliveries and neonatal respiratory stabilization.
• Perform arterial blood gas collection, analysis, and interpretation.
• Administer respiratory medications via nebulizers, MDI, aerosol masks, and tracheostomy delivery systems.
• Manage airway care including suctioning, extubation support, tracheostomy care, and intubation assistance.
• Deliver oxygen therapy including High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC).
• Provide respiratory support in NICU, Emergency Department, Adult ICU, ICU Stepdown, Pediatric, and Acute Care units.
• Participate in trauma and emergency respiratory interventions.
• Attend monthly departmental meetings or review meeting minutes and acknowledge understanding when not scheduled to work.
• Float to all respiratory therapy assignments within scope of practice as required.

Key Requirements:

• Strong hands-on NICU respiratory therapy experience is mandatory.
• Must be comfortable floating between NICU, Adult ICU, Stepdown, Emergency Department, Pediatrics, and Medical Floors.
• Community Hospital experience required.
• Travel experience required.
• Epic EMR experience required.
• Trauma Level II experience required.
• Must be willing to work weekends, holidays, and potential on-call assignments.
• First-time travelers accepted if skills and experience are strong.
• Local candidates accepted.
• Do not submit candidates missing required certifications, licensure, or core respiratory skills.

Education:
• Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program.

Experience:

Required:

• Minimum 2 years recent Respiratory Therapy experience.
• Strong NICU Respiratory Therapy experience.
• Adult Critical Care experience.
• Emergency Department respiratory care experience.
• Community Hospital experience.
• Travel assignment experience.

Preferred:

• 4+ years Respiratory Therapy experience.
• Previous Charge Therapist experience.
• Trauma Level I experience.
• NICU, Adult ICU, ED, and Pediatric respiratory care experience.
• Experience with Level II Trauma facilities.

License:

Required:

• Virginia Respiratory Therapy License OR proof of Virginia license application submitted with an active state license from another state.
• CRT (Certified Respiratory Therapist)

• BLS

• ACLS (90-day grace period from start date permitted)

Preferred:

• RRT (Registered Respiratory Therapist)
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
