Head of Engineering and Project Management

As a Project Manager , you will have the opportunity to hone your project management skills by procuring, planning, coordinating and executing typically 5 active HVAC Commercial construction projects with budgets ranging from $20M - $40M and 3 proposals in the pipeline. You will play a vital role in the bidding process and develop strong relationships to generate retention and new project opportunities. Becomes familiar with the company’s service mission, core values, culture, history, core services offered and how Silicon Valley Mechanical (SVM) differentiates itself from competitors.

Partners with a Project Manager (PM) and initially serves PE responsibilities to fully understand the needs of different projects and the expectations of SVM.

Learns the SVM process to run financial reports, manage material costs, billings, and labor costs.

Shadows a senior PM or Project Executive (PX) to learn the estimating and bidding process and to learn the procedures to effectively communicate with the field team.

Begins to execute monthly/weekly cost reporting, process to run job cost summaries, and forecasting with supervision from a senior PM and direction from Finance Manager.

Communicates with the project Foreman for requests and feedback from the field and to check in on cost summary, labor hours, forecasts for remaining costs of equipment and material.

Attends and learns the process for executing successful kickoff meetings with engineering and the detailing team to discuss coordination with external partners, GCs and the field team.

Is 100% proficient in understanding the PE role and begins to delegate tasks to PEs as a PM with supervision from a senior PM.

Manages, as the lead, 1 - 3 projects with the supervision of a senior PM or PX and continues to further understand financial reports and how to effectively schedule and manage each project.

Is fully independent in the PM role and learns the process for more complex projects and manages 3 - 5 projects with minimal supervision of a senior PM or PX.

At 24 months , has developed strong relationships with GCs and is involved in the negotiations with the supervision of a PX.

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field required.

5+ years of experience as an HVAC Project Manager or similar experience required.

Proven experience managing small teams/building teams required.

Demonstrates proficiency using estimating software, fastDUCT and fastPIPE highly preferred.

Demonstrates an in-depth knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, and other design software a must.

Proven ability to manage a diverse range of project budgets a must.

Highly skilled in building relationships with customers a must.

As a Project Manager the Mechanical Contracting Industry, there are certain physical requirements you should be aware of. This role may involve physical activity including walking, standing, and driving while moving around the office and visiting construction sites.

This role may be required to lift equipment, materials or tools up to 50 lbs.

This role may be required to work at elevated heights and in various work conditions when overseeing installations and other project processes.

This role may be required to navigate through confined spaces such as mechanical rooms, crawlspaces, or attics.

This role may require reviewing and interpreting architectural drawings, schematics, blueprints and other technical documents related to HVAC projects.

This role may work in various environments, including construction sites, commercial buildings, etc.

This role may require the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) during job walks and site visits.
