About the Role

Our client is expanding their creditors’ rights and mortgage default practice in Virginia and seeking a Foreclosure / Bankruptcy Attorney admitted in Virginia to join our Richmond team.

This role focuses on Virginia foreclosure and bankruptcy matters, with opportunities to support related real estate and title litigation. Depending on background and training, the position may also include work with our Docket (transactional/default) team on filings and client‑driven updates.

Virginia practice is more court‑focused and more traditional than MD/DC, so candidates should be comfortable with regular in‑person court appearances across the Commonwealth.

This is a hybrid onsite/remote position, and success requires superior legal writing, strong courtroom presence, and comfort with a fully paperless, technology‑driven workflow.

What You’ll Do

Manage a Virginia foreclosure and/or bankruptcy caseload, meeting firm, client, and court‑mandated timelines.

Prepare and file foreclosure pleadings, complaints, motions, briefs, affidavits, and other required documents in strict compliance with VA state law and client directives.

Draft and argue bankruptcy filings, including motions for relief, proofs of claim, and responses to debtor motions.

Appear in court frequently, arguing motions, attending hearings, mediations, and participating in pretrial work. Virginia courts conduct more in‑person proceedings, so travel to courthouses is a regular part of the job.

Conduct legal research on Virginia foreclosure statutes, bankruptcy code provisions, real estate title issues, and relevant judicial decisions.

Address real estate title and litigation issues, including reviewing title reports, resolving defects, and preparing related filings.

Support the transactional/default team (as needed), including document review, filings, and high‑urgency client updates—some with 24‑hour turnaround expectations.

Perform quality control for draft filings and staff‑prepared work and maintain up‑to‑date information in client platforms and case management systems.

Collaborate closely with the Virginia foreclosure and bankruptcy attorneys, as well as cross‑jurisdictional team members in MD and DC when needed.

You’ll Be Great Here If You…

Are VA‑barred and in good standing (required)

(Preferred) Have experience in foreclosure, bankruptcy, mortgage servicing, title, or creditors’ rights

Deliver excellent legal writing (the most important skill for this role) and can prepare clean, persuasive pleadings and motions

Are highly tech‑savvy and comfortable with paperless operations, case management systems, and multiple client platforms

Can work independently, make sound decisions, and manage aggressive deadlines

Can appear in court frequently and travel to local courthouses

Are detail‑oriented, organized, and able to manage a fast‑moving workload

The team is open to junior attorneys, including those recently admitted to the Virginia bar, if they demonstrate strong writing skills and genuine interest in foreclosure, real estate, or bankruptcy law.
