Job Description and Duties

Under the direction of the Information Technology Supervisor II, the Information Technology Specialist I is responsible for serving as a system engineer, software engineer, information security engineer (for the database environment), business technology manager, client services provider, and information technology (IT) project manager for the California Highway Patrol's (CHP) databases. Serves as a Database Administrator for CHP's databases and several commercial off-the-shelf applications. This position is responsible for database planning, analysis, design, monitoring, troubleshooting, development, and maintenance of IT infrastructure initiatives essential to the Department's mission or affect a large number of the organization's business areas for the Technical Services Group.

Working Conditions

Monday through Friday, 0800-1700 hours on-site; some weekend hours as required; some travel as required.

The Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) serves as documentation of each applicant's ability to present information clearly and concisely in writing. Each question must be numbered and addressed in the same order as the questions below. The SOQ must be typed, no more than two pages in length, and 12-point Arial font.

1. Describe your knowledge, skills, and abilities in troubleshooting and resolving complex databases issues as they relate to backup/restoration, database connection, performance tuning, identifying bottlenecks, and optimization and configuration. Include an example of a technical issue you experienced and the steps and processes you used to resolve the issue.

2. Describe how your education and work experience qualify you for the role and responsibilities of this Database Administrator position based on the desirable qualifications and duty statement.

3. Describe your experience implementing and managing solutions like Always On Availability Groups, Replication to ensure continuous database availability and minimize downtime in case of failures.

4. Describe your experience implementing and enforcing security measures to protect sensitive data, including managing user access, roles, permissions, and auditing database activity to detect and prevent security breaches.
