Job Description and Duties

The Information Technology Specialist I will perform technological assignments related to the Software Engineering domain and the administration of the fiscal systems for the Department of Justice (DOJ). Incumbent is responsible for design, development, testing, maintenance, and problem resolution of systems and subsystems including FI$Cal implementation. The incumbent works with Fiscal Systems Unit staff and provides guidance and recommendations on the impacts of new systems and designs solutions to support DOJ’s mission, while advising management on fiscal systems, applications, databases, interfaces and other technical issues.

Working Conditions

This position is designated for telework under Government Code section 14200 for eligible applicants residing in California and may require reporting to headquarters or field offices and facilities to fulfill operational needs. All telework schedules are subject to change and may be reevaluated at any time. Telework does not change the terms and conditions of employment, the essential functions of job duties, or required compliance with the Department of Justice policies.

This position is eligible for telework, and will be required to report to the office as needed/required. The successful candidate must reside in California upon appointment.

Desirable Qualifications

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

• Full Stack development experience (C# .NET, JAVA, SQL, Oracle).
• Database Administrator experience.
• Experience in technical documentation, database design and schema creation.
• Ability to conduct problem analysis and provide alternative solutions.
• Experience in requirement analysis and gap analysis.
• Good communication skills and team player spirit.
• Understanding of COBOL, JCL, Unix/Linux, ASCII and EBCDIC files is highly desired as is any accounting experience and or experience with the California's FI$CAL system.
