Facility Services Assistant
This position is responsible for event coordination and management as well as general maintenance of city facilities and grounds.
Major duties include:
- Collaborating with the Facility Manager or designee in coordination of setup, supervision, breakdown, and cleanup of events at the A.C. Brase Arena, Osage Centre, Sportsplex or assigned facility.
- Reading and interpreting main floor/meeting room floor plans setup requests and executing them.
- Serving as the public facing point of contact for the City of Cape Girardeau during events.
- Providing exceptional customer service and problem resolution and effectively communicating with guests and staff during events.
- Leading and assisting in physical movement of tables and chairs, risers, supplies and materials for main floor events and meeting room setups.
- Leading and participating in the clean-up after events and meetings including custodial duties, cleaning equipment, damage assessment and contract billing hours.
- Conducting regular physical inspections of facilities including meeting rooms, main floor, hallways, fitness area, common areas, restrooms and offices, equipment, grounds and premises noting anything in need of repair, maintenance or clean-up and providing any necessary repairs, maintenance or clean-up needed.
- Maintaining an inventory of supplies and equipment.
- Leading and assisting in maintaining a clean and organized appearance in all areas of the facility.
- Maintaining and repairing equipment. Developing and implementing preventative maintenance programs for city facilities.
- Assisting with leading full time and part time crews and staff on daily assigned duties.
- Responding to facilities after normal business hours including evening, weekends and holidays.
- Participating in a weekend rotation with other Facility Services Assistants for the effective coverage and management of scheduled facility events.
- Performing regular custodial and cleaning duties as prescribed by facility management. Directing staff in daily cleaning and custodial duties.
- Assisting in meeting with potential renters of facilities.
- Performing and leading staff in facility grounds maintenance including mowing, trimming and snow removal.
- Performing other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge and skills required by the position include:
- Exceptional customer service, communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to effectively communicate with and lead full and part time staff.
- Basic knowledge in the operation of a computer.
- Knowledge of facility maintenance equipment and operation.
- Knowledge of floor care practices and application.
- Ability to prioritize job duties based on need and necessity.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
- Knowledge of cleaning supplies and maintaining sanitary conditions.
- Knowledge of maintenance and repair techniques for building and grounds.
- Knowledge of safety guidelines.
- The ability to understand and enforce Fire Codes and ADA Compliance Standards.
Minimum qualifications include:
- Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position.
- Qualified applicants must possess a valid driver's license.
Salary per hour $17.67, plus a generous benefit package.
- Bi-weekly pay periods.
- Thirteen paid holidays per year.
- 96 hours of vacation – accrued throughout the year.
- 96 hours of sick leave – accrued throughout the year.
- 2 days of personal leave per fiscal year. Must be employed on July 1 of the fiscal year to receive.
- City paid monthly premiums for health and dental insurance – Employee only.
- City paid monthly life insurance for employee only (1 times annual salary up to $50,000).
- Optional group term life insurance purchased at employee's expense.
- Optional vision insurance purchased at employee's expense.
- Voluntary deferred compensation plan – not matched by the City.
- Retirement (LAGERS) paid by the City. Missouri LAGERS – A Secure Retirement for All (molagers.org).
- Total compensation value (Hourly starting rate plus benefits value) for this position is $25.80 hourly/$53,672.20 yearly.
