Information Technology Specialist II - Telework Hybrid

Job Description and Duties

This position is located at the DMV Headquarters in Sacramento.

This position is located at the Sacramento DMV Headquarters. This position, based in Sacramento at Department of Motor Vehicles Headquarters, seeks an innovative IT System Administrator. Reporting to the IT Manager I, you'll tackle complex tasks in problem-solving and IT strategy development. Your role covers System Engineering, IT Architecture, and Project Management, encompassing System Administration, Cloud Architecture, Integration, Storage, and Virtualization. As the System Administrator, you'll lead teams in designing, deploying, and supporting diverse environments, including physical, virtual, IaaS, SaaS, PaaS, and cloud setups. This includes services like Active Directory, Group Policy Management, File Services, and Microsoft 365 offerings (Exchange Online, Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint, Intune, Defender). Your responsibilities extend to overseeing Azure AD, Azure Enterprise Apps, VMWare, DNS, Windows & Linux Servers, RADIUS, and Splunk. You'll design and maintain DMV computing infrastructure, ensure system standards for availability, reliability, security, and scalability, and conduct performance audits and troubleshooting while providing third-level server support. Additionally, you'll lead the setup, configuration, and ongoing administration of enterprise server solutions.

Working Conditions

Part-time telework available. Telework requires California residency. This position offers hybrid telework opportunities; however, telework arrangements are subject to change at any time based on State & departmental operational needs. Employees may be required to report to the office as necessary.

Desirable Qualifications

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

• Five or more years of experience designing, implementing, and supporting enterprise cloud environments utilizing AWS services. • Advanced knowledge of AWS services including EC2, VPC, S3, RDS, EKS, ECS, Lambda, IAM, CloudWatch, CloudTrail, Systems Manager, and AWS Organizations. • Experience architecting highly available, scalable, fault-tolerant, and cost-effective cloud solutions following the AWS Well-Architected Framework. • Strong understanding of AWS security services and best practices, including IAM, KMS, Security Hub, GuardDuty, WAF, encryption, vulnerability management, and compliance requirements. • Experience implementing Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform, CloudFormation, or AWS CDK. • Experience developing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines and DevSecOps practices using AWS-native or third-party tools. • Proficiency in scripting and automation using Python, PowerShell, Bash, or similar languages. • Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, Amazon EKS, and ECS. • Knowledge of disaster recovery, backup, business continuity, monitoring, and incident response processes in cloud environments. • Experience supporting hybrid cloud and on-premises integrations, including networking, identity management, and enterprise infrastructure services. • Ability to lead cloud initiatives, mentor technical staff, provide technical direction, and serve as a subject matter expert for cloud technologies. • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, project management, and communication skills with the ability to collaborate across technical and business teams. • Experience working within government, regulatory, or security-compliant environments is highly desirable. • AWS certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional, AWS Certified Security – Specialty, AWS Certified DevOps Engineer – Professional, or equivalent certifications are preferred.
