About the Opportunity
A leading, well-established organization headquartered in Manhattan is seeking a Benefits Manager to oversee and enhance its employee benefits programs. This role is ideal for a strategic yet hands-on professional who can balance program design, compliance, and employee experience while working cross-functionally with HR leadership and external vendors.
Position Overview
The Benefits Manager will be responsible for the design, implementation, and administration of comprehensive employee benefits programs, ensuring they are competitive, compliant, and aligned with organizational goals. This individual will act as the subject matter expert on all benefit offerings and play a key role in optimizing cost, vendor performance, and employee engagement.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and manage employee benefits programs including health, retirement, wellness, and leave programs
- Lead annual open enrollment, including communications, employee education, and vendor coordination
- Serve as the primary liaison with brokers, carriers, and external vendors, negotiating contracts and monitoring service delivery
- Ensure all programs remain compliant with federal, state, and local regulations (e.g., ERISA, ACA, COBRA)
- Analyze benefit plan performance, utilization, and cost trends; recommend enhancements and cost-saving strategies
- Oversee benefits administration processes, including employee inquiries, claims support, and issue resolution
- Develop and maintain clear employee communications and resources regarding benefit offerings
- Partner with HR, Finance, and leadership to ensure benefits align with broader talent and retention strategies
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field
- 5–8+ years of progressive experience in benefits administration or total rewards
- Strong knowledge of employee benefit regulations and compliance requirements
- Must have managerial experience (1-2 years)
- Experience managing vendor relationships and negotiating contracts
- Demonstrated ability to analyze data and make strategic recommendations
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Professional certifications such as CEBS, SHRM-SCP, or SPHR are a plus
