Risk Manager

Seeking a Risk Manager to join a growing NoVA based General Contractor

Your new company:

An award-winning commercial general contractor based in Northern Virginia is looking to hire a Construction Risk Manager. This is a newly created role within the organization, offering excellent autonomy and the opportunity to help shape the future of the department, its processes, and overall risk management structure. The ideal candidate will bring 5+ years of risk management experience, with a strong preference for someone from the construction industry, whether with a subcontractor, general contractor, or vendor.

Your new role:

Core responsibilities for this Risk Manager position include:

• Lead the identification, assessment, and mitigation of project risks across all phases of construction, from preconstruction through closeout.
• Develop and maintain project risk registers, ensuring risks are documented, prioritized, and actively managed.
• Partner with operations, preconstruction, estimating, and executive leadership teams to evaluate contractual, financial, schedule, and operational risks.
• Review owner contracts, subcontracts, and procurement agreements to identify potential liabilities and recommend risk mitigation strategies.
• Monitor project performance, forecasting potential impacts related to cost overruns, schedule delays, safety issues, and quality concerns.
• Analyze insurance requirements, bonding obligations, and claims exposure to ensure compliance and protect company interests.
• Support project teams in dispute avoidance, claims management, and resolution of contractual issues with clients, subcontractors, and vendors.
• Lead risk management training initiatives and promote a proactive risk-aware culture throughout the organization.
• Prepare risk reports and presentations for senior leadership, providing actionable recommendations to improve project outcomes.
• Stay current on industry trends, regulatory requirements, and best practices in construction risk management to strengthen organizational processes and control.

What you need to succeed:

• 5+ years of Construction Risk Management experience working in the construction industry.
• Strong communicator with the ability to collaborate effectively across project teams, leadership, and external partners.
• Software proficient including Procore, Primavera P6, Autodesk, Viewpoint, HammerTech, Microsoft Office.
• Degree preferred but not essential; relevant construction risk management experience will be prioritized.
• On-site position in the company HQ in Northern Virginia 5 days a week.
