Controller - High Impact, Hands On Role

DescriptionSue Sumrell is recruiting for a growing, operations-driven food manufacturing company in the Portland area hiring a Controller to take ownership of the accounting function and partner closely with leadership.This is a high-visibility, hands-on role where you’ll go beyond reporting—driving accuracy, improving processes, and influencing real business decisions.🎯 Why This Role Stands Out• Direct partnership with the CFO and leadership team• Own the numbers—not just review them• Opportunity to build structure and improve processes• Fast-paced, operational environment (not corporate/slow-moving)🔍 What You’ll Own• Full month-end close and financial reporting (P& L, BS, cash flow)• Inventory accounting & product costing (accuracy, valuation, margins)• GL and financial reporting for multiple entities• Cash flow visibility and reporting to leadership• Budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis• Strengthening internal controls and audit readiness• Driving process and system improvements (ERP, reporting, workflows) What We’re Looking For• 5–10+ years of progressive accounting experience• Strong inventory + manufacturing costing experience (non-negotiable)• Proven ability to own the close and financials end-to-end• Experience in food, manufacturing, or distribution environments• Comfortable being hands-on • QuickBooks Enterprise experience (inventory-focused systems a plus)• CPA preferred but not required🚨 This Role is NOT For• Candidates with only public accounting or corporate reporting backgrounds• Controllers who are too removed from the day-to-day• Anyone without inventory/costing depth Bottom LineIf you’re a hands-on Controller who understands inventory, costing, and operations, and you want a role where you can make a real impact quickly, this is worth a conversation.
