Physics Expert for AI Model Training (AMO / Optical Properties)

Apply deep atomic, molecular, and optical physics knowledge to a focused customer project that trains next-generation AI systems. This contractor role centers on providing expert analysis of optical properties and atomic-structure calculations, with specific emphasis on ab initio configuration interaction methods for polarizability and spectral transition identification in ytterbium isotopes. You will deliver clear, defensible answers and examples that inform how models learn and reason.

• Provide expert insights on AMO physics, concentrating on optical properties of materials.
• Review, analyze, and critique ab initio configuration interaction approaches used to calculate polarizability in atomic systems.
• Perform or evaluate atomic-structure calculations for Yb-171 and Yb-174, and explain relevant computational considerations.
• Identify and distinguish sigma versus pi transitions in atomic spectra, and explain the underlying physical mechanisms.
• Participate in adaptive, spoken AI interviews, answering one question at a time and supplying clear, concrete examples drawn from legally shareable research or projects.

• Required skills: physics expertise with practical experience in ab initio configuration interaction methods for polarizability, atomic-structure calculations for Yb-171 and Yb-174, and the ability to identify sigma versus pi transitions.
• Preferred: advanced degree such as MS or PhD in Physics or equivalent professional experience, with a focus on AMO physics or optical properties of materials.
• Proven experience performing or evaluating configuration interaction calculations and other quantum chemistry or atomic-structure computation techniques.
• Strong verbal and written scientific communication skills, able to explain complex topics in structured, concrete terms.

• Engagement type: independent contractor.
• Location: remote work permitted.
• Work will support a specialized customer project that contributes to AI training and evaluation.

• Hourly pay range: $80 to $160 per hour.

• No prior experience in AI is required; domain expertise in AMO physics is the primary qualification.
