Special Education Supervisor
Qualifications: Supervisor's Certificate for Special Education or Principal Certification. Five years' experience in Special Education. Bachelor's and Master's degree from an accredited college or university, preferably in Special Education, School Administration, or other related educational discipline. Motor vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation.
Job Goal: Under the general supervision of the Director of Student Services, to assist in the implementation, administration, and management of the district's special education programs. Critical areas include coordinating services for students with academic, functional, and/or social, emotional and behavioral needs who require specialized instruction through IEPs during the regular school year and during extended school year (ESY); ensuring the effective implementation of services within the least restrictive environment, inclusive of specialized in-district programs and the provision of related services, including speech/language therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, services for Blind or Visually Impaired students, and services for the Deaf or Hard of Hearing; overseeing transitional processes, including transition from early intervention to school-aged services and transition school-aged IEP services to post-secondary life; and, collaboration and coordination across departments, agencies, and within families to ensure a comprehensive plan of support for students with special needs.
Essential Functions: Assists in developing and administering the school district's special services plans and programs consistent with the school district goals and objectives. Ensures ongoing alignment with legal guidelines, parameters and timelines in regard to the development and implementation of IEPs. Provides leadership in planning and implementing instructional, functional, social/emotional/behavioral and related services for students with IEPs, including transitional periods (early intervention to school-aged and school-aged to post-secondary life). Ensures appropriate service delivery with the least restrictive environment, including specialized programs (learning support, intensive learning support, life skills, emotional support, Autistic and ABA support) for students with intensive needs and virtual instruction. Coordinates and oversees the provision of extended school year for qualifying students. Provides supervision, guidance, and support for special education professional and paraprofessional staff in collaboration with building principals. Ensures appropriate assignment of students to teachers/programs, and caseloads. Advises and assists in the planning and budgeting processes for SASD special education programs and services. Supports the development and implementation of building-level logistics for the provision of specialized instruction and supports (K-12). Maintains effective and ongoing communication and collaboration with agencies and families.
Secondary Duties: Provides and/or plans in-service programs for special education staff members and regular education staff members; provides technical assistance to staff members. Assists in the review and approval of field trips, instructional material and equipment purchases. Assists with the interview process of new staff members for professional and nonprofessional vacancies related to special education. Maintains ongoing communications with administrators, special educators, and general educators, including participation in cross-departmental and agency meetings.

Terms of Employment: 260 Day Contracted Position. Compensation as per the District's Act 93 Administrative Compensation Plan.
Evaluation: Performance of this position will be evaluated annually by the Director of Student Services in accordance with the Board's policy on evaluations of administrative employees.
Supervisory Responsibility: Special Education Office Staff, Special Education Internal Coach, Learning Support, Emotional Support, Autism Support and ABA, Life Skills, Intensive Learning Support, Virtual Instruction (Special Education), Paraprofessional Staff.
Physical Demands and Work Environment: On the job, this employee must bend, sit, must carry/lift loads of light (up to 25 lbs), squat, stand, crawl, walk, climb, push/pull, moderate (25-50 lbs), kneel, manual dexterity, heavy (over 50 lbs), reach above shoulder level, use fine finger movements, ability to communicate verbally and adequate hearing and vision. Work Environment: On the job, this employee uses computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines in an office setting.
