The unit consists of a total of 20 beds divided into two areas. The patient population primarily includes medical patients, such as those with CHF, COPD, kidney/liver/GI/respiratory issues, infections, and wounds. It is essential that candidates are proficient in handling trachs, chest tubes, and IV starts. Candidates will perform wound care and dressing changes, as well as managing wound vacs and drains. Cardiac rhythm interpretation skills are necessary, and RNs will be expected to check off on strips during their shifts. Central line blood draw proficiency is required, along with experience in administering non-titrating drips like Heparin, Lasix, and Protonix. Familiarity with additional non-titrating drips such as Cardizem and Amiodarone is preferred, but training can be provided for those without experience. Team support structures in the unit include a designated charge nurse and additional staff to assist when needed. Telemetry monitoring and tech support are available 24/7, along with hospitalist and resident coverage. The facility utilizes an electronic medical records system and a specific IV pump and medication dispensing system. Floats may occur within the scope of practice as necessary. The unit culture is supportive and collaborative.
