About the Position

This is a level 1 trauma designation facility. It is a teaching hospital and an academic medical center. The unit has 16 beds with a full census. The patient population includes geriatric-related diagnoses such as diabetes, gastrointestinal issues, respiratory concerns, renal issues, and wound care. The focus is on mobilization, and patients are primarily aged 65 and older. The patient turnover ratio is 3-4. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 5-6:1, with a CNA ratio of 8:1. The role requires strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively. Candidates must be able to tolerate moderate to high stress levels. Experience reading telemetry strips is essential. Nurses will manage time effectively and sign telemetry strips each shift. Support within the department includes CNAs, charge nurses, phlebotomists, rapid response teams, and educational staff. Centralized telemetry monitoring is available. The EMR system used is Epic. IV pumps used are Alaris, and medication dispensing is managed by Omnicell. Unit culture emphasizes patient-centered care, high reliability, and strong teamwork.
