GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY

The Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing vehicles, heavy equipment, and machinery used across Hillen Corp divisions. This role ensures all equipment operates safely and efficiently by performing regular inspections, preventive maintenance, and repairs. The Mechanic works closely with the operations and project teams to minimize downtime and support the success of field operations.

EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE AND REPAIRS

Perform routine maintenance and inspections on vehicles, heavy equipment, and tools, including oil changes, fluid checks, brake adjustments, and tire replacements. Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues in equipment and machinery. Ensure all equipment is following safety regulations and operating standards.

PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE

Develop and follow preventive maintenance schedules for all equipment. Inspect equipment for wear and tear and proactively address potential issues to avoid breakdowns. Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, repairs, and parts inventory. Respond to equipment breakdowns in the field and perform on-site repairs as necessary. Collaborate with project teams to minimize equipment downtime and keep projects on schedule. Escalate complex repair issues to management or external vendors when required.

PARTS AND INVENTORY MANAGEMENT

Order and maintain inventory of parts, tools, and supplies needed for repairs and maintenance. Ensure proper use, storage, and disposal of tools, parts, and hazardous materials. Maintain accurate records of parts usage and costs for budgeting and reporting purposes.

SAFETY AND COMPLIANCE

Follow all safety protocols, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Ensure compliance with company policies, OSHA regulations, and environmental guidelines. Conduct safety inspections and recommend improvements to enhance workplace safety.

COLLABORATION AND COMMUNICATION

Work closely with equipment operators and project managers to understand repair needs and prioritize tasks. Provide recommendations for equipment upgrades or replacements based on condition and usage. Communicate repair updates and timelines to supervisors and team members.

REQUIRED JOB SKILLS & ABILITIES

Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems. Knowledge of heavy equipment, machinery, and vehicle maintenance practices. Strong problem‑solving and troubleshooting skills. Ability to work efficiently under pressure and prioritize tasks effectively. Proficiency in using diagnostic tools, power tools, and hand tools. Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.

EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or vocational training in mechanics preferred. Minimum of 3‑5 years of experience in equipment and vehicle maintenance and repair. Certifications such as ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) or equivalent preferred. Experience with heavy equipment and construction machinery is highly desirable. Familiarity with diesel engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems required. MUST HAVE B CLASS License

WORKING ENVIRONMENT & CONDITIONS

Primarily shop‑based with occasional travel to job sites for on‑site repairs. Exposure to loud noise, heavy machinery, and varying weather conditions. Requires the ability to lift, carry, and move heavy tools and equipment up to 75 pounds. Frequent standing, bending, and working in confined or elevated spaces. Regular work hours with occasional overtime or weekend work based on operational needs.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Deep understanding of mechanical systems and maintenance best practices. Ability to interpret technical manuals, schematics, and repair instructions. Strong organizational skills to manage maintenance schedules and inventory. Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to regulations.
