Highway Maintenance Specialist – Greeley Paint Crew (CDL Training Provided) Applications are open to residents and non‑residents of Colorado. CDOT has a vacancy for a Highway Maintenance Specialist in Greeley, CO and will provide training to obtain your CDL. Base pay for this position is $2,074.39 biweekly ( $53,934 annually). The annualized hourly rate is $25.93 with an overtime rate of $38.89 . What You Will Do No two days are the same in CDOT highway maintenance. Your daily work activities change based on project needs, weather, and road conditions. You will be on‑call on a rotating basis and may be called out to respond to weather or other emergencies. You will typically work in a team environment with a lead specialist and other specialists. Plow snow. Operate heavy equipment such as tandem dump trucks, loaders, tractor mowers, and more. Mow grass and weeds. Remove debris from roadways, culverts and tunnels. Shovel gravel, sand, concrete, and asphalt. Dig ditches. Install and repair guardrails, highway markers, signs, warning signs, and lighting. Fill potholes and roadway cracks. Set out signs and cones for traffic control. Remove and cover graffiti. Install pavement markings and striping. Stop or slow traffic in emergency situations. Maintain equipment and perform minor repairs. Follow safety guidance and wear proper safety equipment. Required to use appropriate personal protective equipment. Required to work with chemicals and cleaning products. Use of respirators on some equipment. Work near traffic, sometimes high‑speed traffic. Use of ladders and scissor lifts for heights of approximately 10‑20 feet. Required to drive CDOT vehicles. Frequent response to emergencies outside regular hours, including overtime, weekends, and holidays. Must be willing and physically able to work in extreme temperatures, variable weather, and at elevations up to 12,000 feet for extended periods. Conditions of Employment Must possess a current, valid regular driver’s license. Must obtain a CDL Permit within 30 days of hire (requires DOT physical and DOT drug test). Must obtain and maintain a valid Commercial Driver’s License Class A or B (without air‑brake restriction) within six months of hire. Must pass a pre‑employment screening that may include social security number trace, criminal records check, public court records check, educational records, and driving records checks. May be required to pass a controlled substance test and DOT physical during the hiring process. On‑call work (rotating basis and to respond to emergencies). Shift work. Designated as Essential Services – required to report promptly to provide essential or emergency services. May be required to live within thirty (30) minutes’ driving time under normal weather conditions to respond timely. New employees undergo two weeks of maintenance training; veteran CDOT employees undergo one week of training each year. May be required to obtain a Hazardous Materials endorsement within 6 months to 1 year. Willingness to respond to emergencies outside regular hours and work overtime, including weekends and holidays.
