School Operations Manager School Operations Manager role is an integral part of the Information & Operations team, ensuring that all school operations run seamlessly each and every day. The starting salary range for this role is $71,305-$77,504. This is a full‑time, fully on‑site role based at a PK3‑8 campus. About the Role In partnership with a school leader and Campus Director of Operations, the School Operations Manager supports the school and campus‑wide operations vision. This role ensures that all school operations run seamlessly each and every day, proactively problem‑solving and developing systems where needed. Location and Type of Work This is an exempt position and will report to the Campus Director of Operations. As a headquarters team that is focused on being responsive to our schools and meeting the needs of our students and families, we approach our work in a way that reflects these priorities. Schools operate in person and our students and families rely on us for in‑person support which requires this position to be fully on‑site. This role is currently required to be on‑site or in schools during regular work hours. Responsibilities School‑wide Systems (35% of the time) Serves as the eyes and ears of the school to ensure daily operations run seamlessly, proactively problem‑solving and developing systems where needed. Oversees all aspects of food service, including quality, managing staff/vendors, meal tracking, compliance, and meal delivery. Owns all logistics (e.g., transportation, lodging, meals, staffing plan, etc.) of all off‑site field trips and on‑site special events (performances, graduation, staff celebrations, etc.). Works with the school leader, or their designee, to manage the logistical elements for the end‑of‑year assessment. Finance (20% of the time) Works closely with the school leader to actively manage the school budget throughout the year. Manages the school purchasing process by establishing clear systems for staff to request items, placing orders with vendors, tracking delivery, and coding and submitting purchase orders, invoices, and reimbursement requests; approves school purchases under a specific financial threshold. Leads the school opening/start‑up process each year to ensure that doors are ready to open by ordering furniture, equipment, and instructional supplies. Serves as the second school‑based point of contact regarding finance and works with regional Finance teams to ensure financial compliance and reporting. Facilities & Maintenance (20% of the time) Oversees most facilities issues, including maintenance, managing staff/vendors, aesthetics, shared space agreements, and campus safety. Regularly conducts facilities walkthroughs and liaises with custodial staff/vendors/regional Facilities team to ensure that the facility looks its best. School Operations Leadership (15% of the time) In collaboration with the Campus Director of Operations, implements the school‑wide operations vision that supports and operationalizes the academic and cultural vision. Plays a supportive role in the school’s strategic and annual planning process. Serves as the secondary point of contact for KIPP DC’s headquarters staff. Safety (10% of the time) Ensures that the school is prepared for emergencies by supporting the Campus Director of Operations to conduct all drills and train staff on emergency plans. Supports the Campus Director of Operations during a safety crisis. Collaborates with the Campus Director of Operations to develop arrival and dismissal procedures and plays a vital role during the arrival and dismissal process. Requirements and Preferences Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree Minimum of 3 years of work experience Strong organizational, verbal, and written communication skills Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, and Microsoft Excel Preferred Qualifications Previous experience in K‑12 education setting and/or business or operations management Proven project management skills as it relates to the creation of different systems and structures Ability to work collaboratively across multiple teams Physical Requirements Ability to travel to and between KIPP DC schools Flexibility to work outside of normal business hours or weekends Demonstrated Excellence in Following Areas Commitment to Students and Schools – Demonstrates commitment to education reform, believing in every child’s potential for success and prioritizing students, schools, and the essential role of families. Benefits & Compensation The anticipated starting salary range for this position is $71,305-$77,504. KIPP DC offers a robust benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurances; various voluntary benefits; and employer‑paid benefits such as short‑term disability, long‑term disability, life insurance, and a membership to One Medical. KIPP DC also offers a 403(b) retirement account with a 3% employer contribution and a 3% match with vesting after three years. Currently, individuals in this role have up to 10 paid sick days, 12 paid holidays, paid Thanksgiving week break, winter break, spring break, and summer break. This is subject to change and your exact schedule will be shared in your offer letter.
