Principal Scientist I, Chemistry

AbbVie seeks a Principal Scientist I in Chemistry to lead late-stage development and commercialization of small molecule therapies. The role involves manufacturing process development, technology transfer, and cross-functional collaboration from registration through product lifecycle in North Chicago, IL.

Responsibilities

• Lead or contribute to cross-functional project teams on manufacturing process development and technology transfer
• Design and execute laboratory experiments supporting program development and commercial manufacture
• Author and review technical reports, batch records, and CMC regulatory documents
• Function as principal investigator generating original ideas to solve development challenges and champion new technologies
• Mentor team members and oversee scientific project execution within area of expertise

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree with 14+ years, master's degree with 12+ years, or PhD with 6+ years in organic chemistry
• Expertise in manufacturing process development, scale-up, and mechanistic understanding
• Proficiency with analytical techniques including HPLC, UPLC, LC-MS, and NMR
• Demonstrated success authoring publications, presentations, or patents in chemistry
• Strong cross-functional leadership and interpersonal communication abilities
• Experience with Chemistry, Manufacturing, and Control (CMC) regulatory documentation
• Knowledge of GxP compliance, controlled compounds handling, and corporate safety standards
