Adjunct Instructor, American Sign Language (2025-2026) – PTT Department: Humanities Location: Lincoln Job Category: Faculty – Part‑time Temporary Under the general direction of the division dean and program chair, the Adjunct Instructor is responsible for teaching American Sign Language (ASL) at various levels, using a range of instructional strategies across classroom, online, hybrid, or lab settings. Responsibilities Provide instruction in assigned subject areas, meeting course objectives and utilizing lectures, small group sessions, demonstrations, and computer‑assisted instruction. Prepare and administer evaluation instruments; maintain accurate student records on attendance, achievement, and progress; assist in gathering and interpreting data for department assessment. Remain current in developments related to ASL through professional development, conferences, workshops, and self‑study. Assist in preparing supply and equipment orders, course schedules, book orders, and related reports. Promote and support diversity, inclusion, equity, and access by implementing inclusive practices and fostering a respectful learning environment. Support the college’s organizational environment goals, enhancing policies, procedures, and communication processes. Operate and utilize appropriate instructional technologies (e.g., document camera, projector, interactive smart board). Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Current knowledge and skill to teach ASL. Ability to relate positively to colleagues, staff, students, and supervisors from diverse backgrounds. Effective communication skills. Capability to develop and incorporate varied teaching strategies, including computer applications. Ability to devise and utilize appropriate evaluation methods. Ability to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation. Minimum Qualifications A master’s degree with at least 18 graduate hours in ASL or Deaf Studies, or a bachelor’s degree with current ASLTA professional‑level certification. Teaching experience equivalent to 18 semester hours or 6 courses/sections at secondary or post‑secondary level directly related to instructional responsibilities. Desired Qualifications Experience teaching online and/or hybrid formats. Experience using fiber or Life‑Size technology for remote instruction. Familiarity with engaged learning practices. Salary and Benefits Salary: To be determined. Benefits: Part‑time temporary employees are eligible to participate in the TIAA retirement plan (Roth, SRA, or 457(b) account) with no employer match. Schedule Part‑time temporary position with assignments based on program needs. Open on an as‑needed basis; applicants remain in an open pool until the position is filled.
